Thank you, President Jimmy Carter, for promising to make us energy independent more than 30 years ago.

Scott McGarvey

30 Years of Democrats fighting FOR energy independence and environmental protections; 30 Years of Republicans fighting AGAINST energy independence and environmental protections ... but of course, let's blame the Dem!

How can these people breathe when their heads are so far up their asses?

1. Dear Scott, your gvt should've done what he said. They didn't.

3. That's my point. He's being blamed for something he tried to prevent.

Carter knew what needed to be done, but the Saudis and the oil companies didn't want it, so he was toast. Add that to the Reagan/Bush deal with Iran to hold the hostages until after the election ... and there was no way Carter could win.

Great article about the whole thing here:

4. Hm, let's see now
4 years of Carter was followed by 8 years of Reagan, followed by 4 years of Bush Sr., followed by 8 years of Clinton, followed by (so far) 6 years of Bush** Jr.

So the Republicans have had 6 more years at the helm than the Dems since Carter.

Repugs also controlled the Senate from 81-87 (under Reagan) and, if I'm not mistaken, both houses of Congress since 1995.

Geez, the Republicans can't even get anything positive done about energy independence when they own Congress and the WH!

Well, wait a minute. Digging new fields that won't output for 10 years and then will only keep us going for about 6 months is positively asinine, and waffling on hopefully about fantasy "hydrogen fuel cells" when you won't even give a Prius hybrid owner the same tax break as a Hummer is positively stupefying...So I gues there is some 'positive' in there. Just not the kind that's going to help us Americans any time soon.

That's okay. I'm sure the oilmen are thanking the Repugs for their 30-year lack of attention to our petrol addiction.

Oh, wait...The oilmen ARE the Repugs....
