Arming Big Brother: Europe's security-industrial complex

EU: New Statewatch Report: Tuesday 25 April 2006: Arming Big Brother: new research reveals the true costs of Europe's security-industrial complex (pdf) The European Union is preparing to spend up to €1 billion per year on new ‘research’ into surveillance and control technologies, according to Arming Big Brother, a new report by the Transnational Institute (TNI) and Statewatch. “Arms industry lobbying is leading to the creation of a powerful new internal security-industrial complex,” says Ben Hayes, author of the report. Arming Big Brother lifts the lid on the secretive committees and arms industry lobbying that led to the creation of the European Security Research Programme (ESRP).“The EU is basically funding the diversification of the ‘military-industrial complex’ into the highly profitable internal security field”, said Hayes. “The militarisation of policing and border controls will not prevent crime or terrorism, it does nothing to address ‘root causes’ while posing a massive threat to civil liberties”.

2. Carlyle Group
has been positioning itself in this area for a while. Of course, this will provide those high-paying CEO or director positions for BFEE administration has-beens and insure their continued financial viability. Carlyle gobbled up quite a bit of Qinetiq and bridges N. America and Europe.

I've always been appalled by the way the company has four main topics on its website:

Defence (Brit. spell.)
Security
Commercial
United States

:wtf:

3. This younger crop that was hatched during the current Bush regime
will go get high powered corporate positions then under the next quasi-Bush figure to steal the Presidency they will all remerge to postions like Assistant Sec. of Defense etc.

4. Precisely--
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 03:20 PM by spindrifter
look at the types they are putting into major positions--corporate running dogs. Rummy, England, and so many more--even C*ondiliar had a stint as a corporate director--and she had been academia. They have all learned that it is best to be among the corporate trash rather than having an understanding of the average person.

spelling!
