Consumer Confidence in April Rises to Highest Level in Almost Four Years.
Forget high gas prices, higher interest and the war.. good times are here!

<snip>
Consumers shrugged off higher gasoline prices in April and sent a widely watched barometer of consumer confidence to its highest level in almost four years, a private research group said Tuesday.

But the New York-based Conference Board warned that if fuel prices continue to rise, it would cast a pall on consumer spending, which accounts for two-thirds of all U.S. economic activity.

Improving present-day conditions continue to boost consumers' spirits," said Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board Consumer Research Center in a statement. "Recent improvement in the labor market have been a major driver behind the rise in confidence in early 2006. Looking ahead, consumers are not as pessimistic as they were last month."

3. They didn't talk to the lady on the ABC news story who had to pawn
her wedding ring so her husband could put gas in his truck.

4. They aren't bothering to poll the middle/lower class anymore.

That's the only explanation for this rediculous data.

6. This board is made up of a bunch of CEOs and former CEOs
I read a speech by their president, DiPiazza, and he is a typical repuke free trade freak. I wouldn't put it past them to rig the poll to suit their needs.

A quote - "Our current system, based primarily on historical cost information, is constrained by antiquated laws, rigid rules, and punitive legal systems that chill innovation in corporate reporting."

Deregulate, allow business a free reign, open cheap labor markets. We CEOs can be trusted to do what is right for society. :sarcasm:

9. WTF
This has to be bogus. There's never before been an occasion when people don't express a lack of confidence over rising gas prices. It's a correlation that's been demonstrated over and over again.

By now I expect this administration just cooks every book available to it.

10. Stuff like this is why I do not believe any numbers out of BushCo!
There is no way we are at 4.8% unemployment either, or that our economy is booming. All this up is down stuff gives me a headache!
