6. That's what I think too

Even if the husband isn't a closet case, these women have been taught that being gay is something you can choose or be tempted into. These women are trying to live up to an impossible "Godly" feminine ideal in addition to contending with the insecurity of our sexual appeal foisted upon all of us by Hollywood and advertisers. They're getting it from all sides. They already have to worry about hubby lusting after his female secretary so throwing the prospect of him being attracted to dudes as well is too much to bear.

I've also talked to more than a few social conservatives, male and female, who believe that Alpha males who are very sexually successful with women turn to men out of boredom or "for kicks". A LOT of them really think this. It must have been a popular wingnut theme for a while. Thus, you can see how the importance of controlling women's sexual behavior and eradicating homosexuality are intertwined for them.
