And this is why "24's" Logan is more like Bush than Nixon - spoiler
It really was not too surprising to find out that Logan is a puppet being manipulated by as yet unknown people.

No one would have ever accused Nixon of being manipulated by others except for his own demons. Nixon was considered to be a smart man - even by his worst enemies.

While Reagan and more so Bush were nothing but facades chosen by some behind the scene to not think too much, just to do and say what they were told to.

1. You are right there.
Tonight's episode shot holes in all my scenarios but then the last 5+ years have also.

2. The reviews for this season were spot on...
this is an awesome plot.

Nixon impressed me way back when he was an old man, and he stood in front of a huge live audience at a university and gave a speech on foreign policy, no notes, no prompter. He was incredibly eloquent. Stupidity wasn't his problem. Silver-footed- W. couldn't begin to be compared.

3. I have no doubt that Logan is modeled after Bush somewhat
There are little clues... like a few episodes ago when Logan jumped all over someone for not referring to him as "President", and tonight when he got all whiny because he hasn't been thanked and appreciated enough. I turned to my husband and said, "he is more Bush-like every episode!"

4. Oh Absolutely. And 24 Fucking Rocks!
I don't believe there's still 5 more goddamn episods of drama to go! Who the hell knows what'll happen. But finding out what those Exxon or Energy company fuckers (or some other big greedy corporate interest) are up to oughta be interesting.

This season is every bit as good as any other, and even more enjoyable to me because of the concepts of mihop and creating war for oil. God bless Jack and Chloe and long live (in memory) President Palmer LOL

5. Nixon was heavily manipulated by those that bankrolled his...
...two presidential campaigns. The same rightwing types that have backed Ford, Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II, also backed Nixon. Those rightwing types were the same guys...the military-industrial complex...that Ike warned us about during one of his last speeches.

Nixon also shared information with J. Edgar Hoover and the CIA when it suited his purposes.

No, Nixon was just as manipulated as any other GOP pres since Ike.

Peter Weller (Henderson / Robocop)
Ray Wise (VP Gardner / Leon)
Paul McCrane (The Stringpuller / Emil)
... and is Felton Perry playing one of the Stringpuller's accomplices?

8. RIP, Secretary Heller...
...another big gun gone...this is their best season, and it's cool to see none other than creepy Dr Romano as the Power Behind the Throne...I assume they're oil guys too, but let's not jump to conclusions...who knows...you suppose that they'll come to regard Logan as "expendable" before the night's over?

10. Don't be so sure...
Heller looks too damn tough to die. He looks like the kind of guy who eats Rumsfelds for breakfast... just for fun.

9. Gregory Itzin, the actor who plays Logan, describes himself as liberal -
here's an excerpt from a N.Y. Post interview with him I found at another site. Of course, the Murdoch bias is evident in the title of the piece - the text shows how transparent their Freeper slant is.

PRESIDENT EVIL

'24' PREZ BASED ON JFK
-------------------------------------------------------
Gregory Itzin, better known as the duplicitous President Logan, stopped by The Post yesterday.

April 19, 2006 -- ANY similarities between Richard Nixon, George W. Bush and the villainous President Charles Logan on "24" are purely coincidental.

But JFK? That's a different story, says Gregory Itzin, the actor whose intense portrayal of the troubled, tragic and ultimately duplicitous president on the Fox suspense series has emerged as one of the season's great performances.

"I'm a child of the Kennedy era," said Itzin, who will turn 58 tomorrow.

"So in the very first shot of me in the very first episode of , I tried to re-create in my own body language the black-and-white photos of Kennedy that are embedded in our memory from Life magazine - you know, when he's talking to his brother, or sitting in his rocking chair," Itzin explained in an interview at The Post yesterday.

"I tried to do that because at the beginning, I had high hopes that I would be a president to admire," he said with a laugh.

Itzin said viewers shouldn't search for covert political commentary in the show's portrayal of the Logan administration. For one thing, neither Itzin nor the show's writers know which party Logan belongs to, he said.

"The guy who invented this show, the creator of the show, Joel Surnow, is - and this is no secret - a right-wing Republican. He loves the fact that Rush Limbaugh is a big fan of this show.

"And the other gentleman who is now the show runner, Howard Gordon, is a liberal also well-known. So there is an evenhandedness to the story that's being told," Itzin said.

Itzin, born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Wisconsin, describes himself as a liberal. He lives in Los Angeles with Judie, his wife of 27 years. They have a daughter, 23, and a son, 20.

On "24," his character started out as vice president but was elevated to the presidency last season following the crash of Air Force One.

This year, President Logan at first came across as an ineffective, indecisive, hand-wringing worrywart until a few weeks ago, when he was revealed to be the mastermind behind this season's series of terrorist attacks.

In person, Itzin is, of course, the spitting image of President Logan, except for the three studs he wears in his left ear. Yesterday, they were red, white and blue.

"About three or four or five episodes ago, were hugely visible in a closeup on the left side of my face, and prior to that, they hadn't been," Itzin said. "And then the next week, one of the producers said, 'Would you please cover those up?'

"I wear them all the time when I'm not working," the actor said, adding, "I'm an artist - I'm allowed to adorn myself!"

Itzin is a veteran actor with dozens of movie and TV credits (mostly in guest roles), but he acknowledges that his role on "24" is the biggest he's ever had.

For the first time in his career, he is being recognized everywhere he goes. He reports that "24" fans seem to like him even better now that President Logan has emerged as the villain of the show.

"Just before I got in the car earlier, somebody came up to me and said, 'Don't let them kill you! You are so great!' " Itzin said.

"As an actor who longs to be loved and approved of, I am finding this very gratifying."

13. We know that Palmer was a Democrat
On Season 3 when he was campaigning for re-election he was forced to withdraw after the problems with his wife. But I don't think that it was clear whether Keeler, who finally was elected, was from the same party.

On occasions on DU some were lamented the fact that 24 glorifies government anti-terrorism actions, doing whatever it takes. Some said that 24 clearly has a right-wing bias. But I think that this season it shows how the top government officials can be corrupted or intimidated by the behind the scene power.

And it will be nice if more would recognize an empty suit as standing for our current president.
