Today's Rove Memo: Environmentalists are to blame for high gas prices.
On Limbaugh, Hannity and Gallagher today, they all said that oil companies are not to blame for high gas prices. In fact, it is the tree-hugging environmentalist libruls who are blocking the drilling offshore and in ANWR, that's why we have to depend on foreign sources.

I also heard an interesting conincidental "statistic" on all three shows...that if we drilled ANWR, we'd have enough fuel to last until alternatives are found. No telling how long that is, though.

Of course, the topic of the oil companies' record profits and astronomical CEO retirement packages came up. The response was, "they are in it to make money, that's what business is all about."

I even heard them say a few times that the government (in the form of taxes) makes a higher profit margin on oil than the oil companies. And to think, all through my MBA classes they taught me that Profit = Revenue - Cost...one would think that if profits are increasing, that means that revenues are increasing faster than costs. But of course, that would be in a world that made sense I guess.

Anyhow, that was the message for the day. Blame the liberals.

So strange...last time I checked, the Republicans had power of all three branches of the federal government. But somehow the minority party is the one causing all of the problems.

Rove used to be so much sharper than this. They are grasping so hard, and America just isn't listening to the crap anymore. $4-a-gallon gas is going to get a lot of people angry. A lot of people in very red states. Grab your popcorn.

1. problem is...many Americans will fall for it...my gf's sister is attending
a catholic college in Louisevill Kentucky. She's pretty hip and cool to things. That being said, she was saying that she had learned in her business classes that the oil companys are actually losing money and its not a profitable business for them. Poor babies. I asked her if she was aware that the oil companies are posting record profits. Her response: no they aren't.

Ah young impressionable minds. Aren't they wonderfully manipulated?

3. But the thing that sickens me is that it is so easily refuted.
If you think the oil companies are losing money, look at their earnings statements. They are posting record profits.

Profit = Revenue - Cost

In a truly balanced and competitive market, profits should not increase during a period of increasing costs. Unless, that is, you are overcharging for your product.

8. They are like members of a cult. They have their heads so far up their
butts that they can only hear the sound of their own stomach rumbling.

Do they ever read the papers or hear the news from any place that tells the truth? Sorry. I know the answer to that. :silly:

I asked her if she was aware that the oil companies are posting record profits. Her response: no they aren't.

11. Again, it's not like the truth on oil profits is hard to find.
The SEC requires all corporations to publish their earnings and profits. These documents are public and free for anyone to obtain.

Arguing that the oil companies aren't posting record profits is like arguing that water isn't wet.

4. Trust me, noone but the truly psychotic
will buy this and most of them won't because of the fact they believed in this bunch in a truly twisted messianic manner where they believed that they'd be protected against things of this nature because he was an "AHL MAN". You hit them in the the pocket book, particularly the part of that purse that pays for the fuel that powers their trucks and SUV's big enough to transport half of LA and watch how much howling you'll hear about his failures. Environmentalists won't work. Hell, nothing that he's put ut lately has been working, LOL!! he'd be better off saying that it's the fault of the Venusians.

5. Those stats on ANWR are not correct; I remember reading that the
amount of oil available there is so miniscule as to be negligible when it comes to supply; it's just another ploy to put more money in the hands of Big Oil and to take money away from funding for the environment.

Why isn't anyone bringing up what the Imbecile said he'd do if gas prices went sky high? He made some pretty specific campaign statements about how he'd handle that...and what's he doing?

The king is in the counting house, counting all his money....

to develop alternatives.
Remember when there were tax breaks if you put solar panels on your house?
Carter had set standards, he put solar panels on the White House, and the first thing that RayGun did was pull them off the White House.
Remember Carter telling us all to turn our thermostats down and wear sweaters?
Why do you get tax breaks for buying a Humvee and not for buying all the Hybrid cars?
Why are SUV's categorized as trucks and therefore exempt from the pollution rules that govern cars?
Why were the CAFE standards abandoned, when if we had stuck with them we probably would have been free of dependinace on foreign oil by now?
Why aren't we driving small cars that get 60 miles a gallon?

fuel is what will kill us all as it fosters Global Warming and makes this planet more and more uninhabitable for our species!!!!
Those idiots are so pathetically stupid that they do not even realize that they are killing themselves too!
It reminds me of the fable of the Turtle and the Scorpion.
As long as the Scorpion got to kill the Turtle, it didn't matter that the Scorpion drowned as well

17. ANWR might be able to provide 5% of current US needs
in 15 years, if it were drilled.

We could do much better by promoting solar and conservation.

19. Then why were gas prices stable under Clinton?
Oh I know, it's a conspiracy.

The oil companies conspired with evil Al Gore (AKA Ozone Man) to hold down prices in exchange for--for oh well it doesn't matter there was a conspiracy and now everyone is trying to to bring down George Bush who is the greatest, bravest and most wonderfulest president in history.
