First Lady Announces Literacy Conference - Is this for GWB??
I really feel she is doing this for George so he can start reading more.

First Lady Announces Literacy Conference 2 hours, 9 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Laura Bush announced an initiative Monday to combat global illiteracy, saying that more than 800 million people around the world can't read.

The first lady said a conference on global literacy will be held in New York in September during the opening of the 61st session of the U.N. General Assembly. The conference will be held in conjunction with the departments of Education and State, USAID and UNESCO.

3. Shouldn't she announce a World Hunger conference or care for Iraqi
babies conference.

WTF is this literacy shit. I bet she won't invite any people who have insight into illiteracy and impact to immigrants.

6. It's to pump up his sagging poll #'s. Couple of days ago, the corporate
news announced that the bush administration was sending out the First Lady to shore up ** poll #'s. I wonder what makes them think that she will make us who hate and distrust her lying murdering corrupt husband, suddenly trust him? And how does her going to libraries, speaking in front of hand picked middle schoolers, make **'s evil policies any more palatable or believable?

7. Memo to Laura:
So 800 million people world-wide can't read?

That's a pretty staggering number. But at the rate your husband is causing death and destruction around the world, his response to national disasters like Katrina, his gutting of social programs that feed the hungry here and abroad, the price of heating oil that many Americans can't afford, and the number of Americans who now have no health insurance or prescription drug coverage, the number of fatalities domestically and internationally will undoubtedly go up on a consistent basis.

And hey, there are probably quite a few people WHO CAN'T READ that will wind up in that final tally, so don't fret. The NON-READERS will die right along with the literate.

THIS is your husband's legacy - nice to see you're worried about whether those who die will be able to READ before they succumb ...

8. Barbara Bush had literacy as one of her pet projects as well.
I have always maintained that GWB has some VERY SEVERE learning disabilities, language processing problems that have dogged him all of his life. (Hence Barbara's early awareness of issues such as dyslexia.) His struggles with spoken language are legendary and he publicly admits that he doesn't read, doesn't like to. (No shit, George. The dead giveaway was that you take in almost no new complex information that would give you depth or background on any issue that comes across your desk.) Laura's photos with children and in classrooms appear on many federal documents/brochures that come out of the U. S. Department of Education. It's all a political ploy -- when they're trotting out Laura, his numbers are in the toilet.

10. George and I were just meant to be. ....
I was a librarian who wanted to snag a rich hubby, get pregnant, and never work another day in her life, and he was a trustafarian whose fertility was strenuously vouched for by every black market abortion doctor in Houston.

We met, and married, and I became one of the regulars up at Kennebunkport. All the Bushes love Kennebunkport, which is like Graceland, except without the tasteful interior decorating or the convenience of having your host dead. People ask me what it's like to be up there with the whole Bush clan. Lemme put it this way: First prize — Noelle and I toss back a case of Robitussin DM and take a Chris-Craft out for a 60MPH spin through the nearest yacht club. Second prize — Neil steals your purse and maxes out your credit cards on a sex tour of Thailand.

Speaking of prizes brings me back to my monster-in-law. So many mothers today are just not involved in their children's lives — Not a problem with Barbara Bush. People often wonder what my mother-in-law's really like. People think she's a sweet, grandmotherly, Aunt Bea type. She's actually more like, mmm, a total fucking bitch.
