The Houston Chronicle
reports:
"The oil minister, Ibrahim Bahr Uloom, was put on a mandatory, monthlong leave. He had previously threatened to resign over the government's recent decision to increase gas prices sharply, a move that has outraged motorists and sparked attacks on gas stations and fuel convoys."Gas prices at the pump rose 800% overnight. (How would that fly in the US? Eight. Hundred. Percent. I can't imagine) The ensuing violence and threats by insurgents to attack vital oil interests led to the personnel change at the ministry.
One might imagine that with all the attention given to the oil infrastructure since the invasion, security would be well-developed. Hmmm...who, who, who could be credited with that, um, success?:
"Chalabi, whose government portfolio already includes....overseeing security for oil infrastructure such as refineries and pipelines, will temporarily take the reins of Iraq's only major industry."Oh, and remember how he didn't get enough votes to hold any
elected position? Not so fast:
"Moussawi said Friday that Chalabi could still end up in the parliament, depending on how officials interpret election rules."Just who
is Ted Olsen's Iraqi counterpart?
