Is Laura Bush an abusive spouse ?
Edited on Mon Apr-24-06 10:53 AM by kentuck
It is not always the husband that beats the hell out of the wife. But, with these latest rumors about marriage discord, one cannot help but think of all the different scrapes and bruises this President has endured in the last 5 years. Once or twice would not be uncommon or questionable but from a half dozen to a dozen times does raise the curiosity level.

Most everyone recalls the pretzel incident and many thought, at that time, that somebody had slapped the hell out of him. Who was it? Was it Laura? Just asking...

14. You never met my ex-wife
Hahaha
She's a "weapon grabber" and the phone company was often there to put the wires back in the wall. She broke a rifle over my legs one day, Davy Crockett style. (Yes I knew how to provoke her)
I saw her husband the other day and he looks like he just fell off a mountain bike too.

She either has to up her dose, or live alone.
Same with Laura.

Even their top programmers probably can't write good enough software to deal with the daily piles of B.S. it is forced to deal with with this bum!

4. I ALWAYS thought that was Laura that did that.
I am used to looking at injuries and trying to see the nature/cause--it appeared to me to be a bruise caused by not only a blow, but by someone wearing a ring.

I never believed the official story.

That said, if it were Laura, I would be hard pressed to put her down for that.

any more than rumors of flying crockery in the Clinton household was anybody's business ten years ago.

I'd really like to see a stop to all the tabloid crap about the First Lady, whoever she is. It's a thankless job, garners no paycheck, has little real prestige. She's blamed by all sides for her dress, her mannerisms, her hairstyle, her taste, and her choice of husband.

I'm sick of it. Lay off, willya?

15. Not exactly thankless..
she gets her ass kissed on a regular basis. The perks are pretty good too, and it's purely a voluntary position.

If the taxpayers are paying for her wardrobe, hairstyle, vacations, staff, et al, she's as fair game as any other elected politician. If she's beating up George, shouldn't we have the right to know? Isn't that a security risk? If she sends him into a coma, doesn't the pose some serious consequences for the country?

However, on the other hand, I do think that politicians have the right to a private life.

57. It's an INVOLUNTARY position, you mean
She comes along as an appendage, an afterthought to his decision to run for the office. She didn't run for the office, she wasn't elected, nobody pays her a thing, and she's expected to assume all sorts of hostess duties over and above any corporate crap she had to deal with in the rest of her marriage.

I just feel sorry for all of them, I don't care how they've been pushed into the public eye as an echo to their husband's BS.

61. I think he'll be spared the indignities visited upon the First Lady
He will be present at White House galas, but he won't be expected to plan them. He will stand in the receiving line, but he won't be expected to police the protocols. He will dine with heads of state, but he won't be expected to cope with seating arrangements, menus, or entertainment. Compared to a First Lady, he'll be free as a bird to pursue his own interests.

In short, he'll be like Maggie Thatcher's husband, off doing his own thing while the wife runs the country. She often complained that Prime Ministers were expected to have wives to handle all the details, and she didn't have one.

22. It seems to me that ever since Nancy Reagan came on the scene the
"First Ladies" have been VERY much involved and active in advancing their husband's careers. Far from being just along for the ride (like the Pat Nixon type which you imply) these are hard nosed babes who are into the power thing every bit as much as their mates and maybe even more so and, likewise, deserve every bit of the criticism and derision that their husbands do.

and not just as a "good husband" ... I mean on his policy. Therefore, she is NOT immune from criticism any more than Georgie boy is. If she didn't come out and meddle in politics and make speeches talking about policy decisions and issues, that'd be one thing. But that isn't the case, and she does NOT get a free pass.

he is the abusive person in the relationship. what she is doing now is treating him like someone she just knows. there isn`t one once of compassion left in her for him. the years of abuse to her and her daughters have drained her of any feelings that married people should have at their age. she goes thruogh the motions every single day of her life and it shows on her face. pay back is a bitch, espcially when it is his family that he has abused all his life.
he`s no longer her dashing young cowboy,he`s just a little man in a cheap suit

EDITED for typing

The rumors of marital discord are what is being hawked by supermarket tabloids. As with other headlines that I read (actually, can't help reading, but wish I could) while standing in the fast check line, I assume there isn't a shred of truth to this story and I will continue to make that assumption until this is picked up by a credible news source and documented in some solid way. Frankly, I'll be surprised if that ever happens.

What is noteworthy is that the tabloids are picking on the Bushes for the first time. Almost five and a half years into his occupancy of the White House and in spite of having two errant daughters whose exploits and presumed exploits would be natural fodder for these rags, the supermarket tabloids were still rumor mongering about the Clintons. If these gossip rags had any truth, Bill and Hillary would be divorced by now and Chelsea in rehab.

I really don't care about the state of the Bushes' marriage; that's their business. I care about the declining state of our nation and the deteriorating state of the world at large as a result of Mr. Bush's maladministration. That he is a liar is well documented. That he should be impeached and removed from office for everything from negligence to abuse of power to war crimes is irrefutable. That he is dangerous is beyond doubt. That is what I care about.

24. Good answer
and you're right, it IS noteworthy that the tabloids are starting to pick on the Bushes. It must be becoming fashionable to do so.

Hard as it may be for us to believe, these rags actually influence lots of people. If these stories are coming out, true or not, they may just chip into Bush's remaining base.

(What is it today with the crazyposts?) Bush falls off bicycles, scooters etc. regularly, but you want to put it out there that it's Laura doing it--with NO proof? That's totally unconscionable and low. You'd pitch a helluva fit if a Republican did it to a Democrat--don't sink that low yourself.

32. I don't have proof of either one.
Hillary and Laura are two different people--with 2 different personalities. One could well have a helluva temper and the other one not. Just because a Republican would make the charge against Hillary, that doesn't make it automatically false, nor does it give anyone the right to say 'Laura did it, too!' without proof.

For myself, I'd need proof on BOTH sides. Your claims are TOTALLY groundless.

The point IS, I don't think she is like anything at all; I DON'T KNOW THE LADY. Nor do I think Hillary is 'like' anything in particular, personally--I don't know her either.

I DON'T HAVE PROOF OF EITHER ONE BEING ABUSIVE TOWARD THEIR SPOUSES--AND NEITHER DO YOU. An intelligent, reasonable, decent person doesn't spread lies, rumor, slander etc. without PROOF.

But this is no place for the faint-hearted or the naive. I don't personally care for Laura or Hillary. But, we are in a war for America. If they are in the kitchen, they have to take the heat. Sweetcakes and bunnies are to be found elsewhere. I'll admit that I don't know why Dubya has so many scratches and bruises and abrasions?? Maybe he was just drunk and fell on his face? Maybe he did just choke on a pretzel? Who knows? Perhaps we will create a Marquis of Queensbury rules for discussion?

If you're looking for etiquette or posts that are always factual and sensitive, you may want to check out Free Republic? They're perfect! People here do know facts from bullshit and make-believe, generally speaking. Do not be too concerned about rumors and "lies" getting too far. People recognize posts for what they are - humor, rumor, innuendo, lies, probable truth, possible truth, etc. Don't take it so seriously. Laura isn't worth it. :)

48. Now the Latest Threads and Latest Breaking News are different...
The "Latest Threads" can be from anywhere....even the Lounge. However, the Administrators and the Moderators are very guarded as to what gets posted on the LBN. That is where the posts are required to be from a source with the exact title of news article. These have to reported - not opinion.

The General Discussion-Politics are mostly political and can be commented on or entitled with your own interpretation or whatever you want, more or less. However, if they don't have merit or are not at least, "entertaining", they may sink into the archives quite quickly. The rest of the board are the referees. If it crosses the line, they will let you know.

General Discussion is discussion about almost everything and everybody. It is irreverent, sometimes angry, sometimes vicious, sometimes compassionate, sometimes loving, it covers the gamut. It flows fast and free. If yo can get a post in General Discussion to the "Greatest Page" (at least 5 nominations) then you have had a good day. It can get rough and rowdy.

If you're looking for friendly and fun conversation, sometimes you will laugh your ass off, go to the Lounge. Everybody goes there to take a break sometimes when it gets too hot and heavy on the other threads. Otherwise, Welcome! :)

31. The facial spots and bruises could also be from Antabuse
abuse. Antabuse is a medication given to alcoholics that has bad side effects if you drink alcohol while taking it. Abrasion like rashes are one of the results. So if Bush's handlers are giving him antabuse so he doesn't drink and he drinks anyway, he will have those effects. I'll bet the SS know what's going on for sure.
