I want to get out of the food industry. What else could I do?
I have 5 years in the food processing industry in quality assurance and would really like to get out of it. I do not want to discourage anyone from getting involved in this industry, but I have found that it really is not for me. If anyone has any questions about this career though, I can offer advice.
Aside from this experience, I have a BA in biology. I am not teacher certified and do not really want to be a teacher. It seems that most positions requiring an undergraduate degree in biology are dead end and pay poorly, like $10-$12/hour. I wish that I had noticed that in high school and pursued either a chemical engineering degree or a liberal art in which I would have had a higher GPA.
Graduate school is not really an option right now. I need health insurance and money.
I currently live in a non urban area. I could move, but I need to be able to afford housing that accepts pets.
To complicate matters, I have anxiety disorders. I would prefer a career that does not require a lot of interaction with people who I do not see regularly.

2. Thanks
I am not sure if I'll be qualified enough, but I applied anyway. I figure that it is worth a try. I'd be alright with working for the government, as opposed to profit making business. One of my grandfathers worked for the soil conservation service most of his career.
If I wanted to use my food experience, I could work for the USDA. I overheard an inspector say that they are having a hard time getting good candiates for positions on the West Coast, but that it had something to do with the rate of pay for the position compared to the cost of living.
I have my profile created so now I can apply for any jobs that might interest me.
