Thanks for the new forum Skinner.

I'm one of last year's victims. There still a tree down in my back yard from the canes we had and there are still several blue roofs in my neighborhood. Not bragging or complaining just giving my credentials to be in this group. I live in central Florida and we got a triple-whammy last year.

A lot of people lost everything. I'm just thankful I wasn't one of them. Now home insurance rates are going out of sight and a lot of policies, particularly near the coast, are being cancelled.

My good thoughts go out to this year's victims along the Gulf coast.

1. Hey good to see ya here!
Do you live in Polk County? I lived in Orlando for 5 years back in the early 90's, so I count myself as lucky for not having to go through the 2004 season.

Let me ask you, is there a setting, here at DU, so that you see the Group posts on the Latest Page? I though it worked like that before?

2. I don't know of any auto-notification

to let you know of any recent replies if that's what you mean. I just check "My recent posts" every now and then. You can create your own group of faves. But I don't think there's any way to customize the Latest Page.

Yes, I live in Lakeland. We hadn't had any severe weather for years and then get the eyes of three canes go over us in six weeks time. Makes me wonder what we did that was so wrong. But I'm sure it would probably have something to do with having the simian sibling as our gov.

3. Do you still have Orange and other citrus growers near you?
I heard them say that these Hurricanes might spread the Citrus Canker, did anyone near you have to burn their trees?

5. Here's a pertinent article in today's paper .....

http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051203/NEWS/512030343/1178

At the right of the article there are links to other canker related issues.

I'm sorry but I don't really keep up with that. I only have two citrus trees in my back yard and they appear to be doing OK.

7. I'm another Central Florida person. Last time I counted I had
over 30 trees down. I have 2 chopped up and had to have someone come in and take 2 two others down that moved toward the house. It will take the rest of my life to finish up with all these trees.
