Does anyone remember them or know what I am talking about?

1. I remember them, we'd put them in an empty coke bottle full of water and then
dampen the clothes before ironing them. I have no idea where to get one though.

LAUNDRY SPRINKLERS

Sprinkling is an old hoodoo custom used in connection with ritual cleansing.

Old Fashioned Laundry Sprinkler $1.00
Not too many people sprinkle their laundry anymore, but those who do will
find this old-fashioned 1950s style plastic and cork sprinkler convenient;
it can also be used to make a ritual asperging or sprinkling bottle.
Red and white plastic with cork fitting to use with your own bottle.

There are some on eBay too but they're more expensive.

3. Sprinklers went out with spritzers
I keep a spray bottle filled with water close by when ironing. It's great for those ironed in wrinkles and for that stuff that just won't iron flat no matter how much steam you give it. A few spritzes solve the problem.

I grew up with my mother sprinkling the clothing she'd just dried on the line, rolling it all up, and keeping it in the fridge so it wouldn't mildew. It seemed like wasted motion to me.

4. Hi, Warpy. I grew up that way too. Sprinkling just works better for
some laundry stuff. I used to love getting the chore of sprinkling the clothes. It sure beat the ironing part, or the hanging them on the line part, or doing the rinse cycle in the old fashioned way with a wringer and a tub of clear water.

5. Aluminum or plastic embedded in cork. Sure we remember!
At least I do since it was my job to neatly sprinkle the clothes and roll them up so they could sit overnight to dampen evenly. It was a chore to iron when I was a kid. The metal irons weighed a ton, no permanent press. One part of the good old days I can live without. Thank heaven for spray starch! The sprinklers are Still available, along with some of great old time stuff at

7. I remember 'em, but...
now I get the spray bottles of imitation Windex at the dollar store and reuse them when empty.
