1. I was a member but went by the wayside. Are they still a viable
organization?

2. I am ...
but other than email newsletters and alerts I rarely hear from them. I have contacted the chapter in my area several times to no avail.

4. I'm not a member, but a friend is on the board of the Chicago chapter
NOW is as good as it's local organizations, and some of them are proactive and inclusive, and some of them are duds. The state chapter (Illinois) has done some boneheaded stuff that makes her roll her eyes.

3. Cool enough, I suppose
I'm sure the local and state chapters vary from locale to locale, but nationally N.O.W. still has quite a bit of pull politically. If you've got the $$, I'd consider them a good thing to support. They've institutionalized, of course, since their lean and mean beginnings, but certainly still viable.

5. I gave my wife a membership
somewhere around our first xmas together. Up until a few years ago, when she told me I didn't have to bother - apparently our local chapter (MN) is one of the duds.

7. That's impressive
Glad to hear a good report.

I myself am a member in donating status only. I'm sure there's at least one chapter around me that's active though and have promised myself to at least check them out and maybe get more involved. It's good to know there are chapters out there that are working well. Thanks for providing that insight.

8. I'm a member, but not particularly active
I don't see them doing all that much in the way of activism these days. I do still send in my membership fee every year.
