Nancy Pelosi and reporter in "cat fight." Is this insulting?
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 02:15 PM by Beaverhausen
I've seen one thread
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4698164

and several other posts in which they refer to the house majority leader standing up to her female interviewer on CNN as a "cat fight"

This is the most insulting thing I have seen here in a long time.

Is it just me?

on edit: I see they deleted the thread. Good for the mods!!!

1. I alerted on it
It seems that the B-word has been flowing like a river these days as well...especially since Babs Bush's comments. I've been alerting like mad on those as well.

I'm glad they deleted it, as well as 99% of the b-comments I've alerted on as well. I'm sure they're tired of my alerts, but we were told to not come here and post the threads because that's what the alert function was for. SO I'm using it liberally.

2. Me too.
I know they are probably tired of my alerts but then I am tired of seeing someone called the "C" word like that is not offensive since they did not type it all out.

Bitch does not really bother me as much as that one does but I do think it is necessary to alert on it too. It seems as soon as that word is used the anti women rhetoric escalates.

Yes, cat fight offends me. I missed it so thanks for alerting on it.

3. I did too. By the way do you know what happened to last nights B-thread?
someone who tried to say "if we say someone is a B and it rhymes with witch" or something like that. Do you know?

4. I don't know. I know who started it though
wish I could do a search...

I was amazed, though, at the sentiment in that thread. All the "Well, I'm a woman, and I'm not offended, so therefore, no one should be"

I have black friends who have no problem with the word "nigger" whether said by a black counterpart or white redneck.

THEREFORE< since they're not offended, then no one should be and nigger should be used graciously in the common lexicon with as much reckless abandon as ever. I mean, They're not offended, right?

6. I missed that
Was away for a few days. Some guys can't view or hear a women without thinking "vagina" or "action," then act as if it's an indication of women's inherent limitations, not of their own preverbal hangups. So glad to hear they were called out.

7. Of course it is. Typical DU stuff from what I have observed. They start
those threads and then someone with some sense sees them and they get locked. There are many ways to have a discussion about a fight between a reporter and the minority speaker (whether r or Dem) than this. But until we do a better job of raising the bar on the sexism around here, these types of things will continue.

8. I HATE the term catfight
It's used to describe any conflict between 2 women, even the mildest disagreement. It automatically conjures up the image of females fighting over a male. That's why a lot of guys like to use it, so they can make it, once again, all about THEM!

9. I think it demeans women, saying their disagreement is
on the level of a fight between two cats.

Can you imagine anybody saying that about a conflict between two men?

10. Of course! I find it disgusting.
One of the things that is frightening though, is that when men disagree, its "argument" or "violent argument" or "Came to verbal blows" Or some other violent imagery when describing male disagreements. NOT good for our sons. Or any other male for that matter.
