Very cool article in LBN re: Kenya
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/08/AR2005070801775.html

Someone posted this in LBN and I thought it would be good to run here. It's about a female-led village.

This quote cracked me up:

"In an act of spite, the men of her tribe started their own village across the way, often monitoring activities in Umjoa and spying on their female counterparts." Typical.

Kudos to Rebecca Lolosoli and all the women who are forging feminism in Africa!

3. Hey!!
Missed you and have been worried! How are things with your kitties and living situation?

I loved reading about that village. I hope more women around the world follow suit. This is the kind of thing that gives me hope that all this Bush neo-con crap is just the last gasp of a dying order, on it's way to extinction.

4. Hey back !
Still here, kittens are here under cover. Am in negotiations w/LL to see if I can stay with my boys.
Got people out everywhere trying to find these guys a shelter.
If I get inspected tomorrow, we're all out on the street but I cannot euthanize them, they're wonderful beautiful trusting little creatures.
It's hell for animals down here. Too few care about them.
It's heartbreaking.

5. Yay!!
I'm glad your little guys are still ok. Hopefully you'll find good homes for all of them. It just breaks my heart that so many animals are sacrificed because of peoples' stupidity and carelessness. SPAY AND NEUTER!! Good gawd, the Humane Society does it for FREE several times a year.

Great to see you back.

6. Thanks.
I missed you.

Argh! Little furry terrorists are shredding my jeans!

My grown up boys are on their last nerves, I think.
They have sought higher ground, refrigerator, kitchen cabinets, window sills, etc.

As soon as the little boogers realize they can climb onto the bed, nobody will ever sleep again.

I love them though.

7. I know the feeling
My kitty, Southpaw, is a 6 year old non-properly weaned little hellion. I got him when he was a few weeks old. He'd been run over by a car! He had tire tracks on him and he looked terrible. Luckily he was such a little baby that he was all cartilage so other than the aesthetics, there was no physical damage to him at all.

So now I deal with him suckling and kneading on me like crazy. He is the most non-aloof cat you will ever encounter. He actually comes when I call him by name! Very needy. And very destructive to carpet and furniture. Oh well, luckily I don't have anything too fancy in my house. His fondest hope is that the 2 dogs will move away. That hasn't happened so they've formed an uneasy truce. My greatest entertainment is watching the dynamics between him and my very jealous female Sheltie as they vie for my attention. If I'm petting him, she starts growling and if I'm petting her he meows and circles. It's pure comedy. But occasionally, I'll catch the 3 of them snuggling on the couch together. Pets make life good :loveya:

2. It is a wonderful article
a wonderful one.

I loved that part about their village and I also loved that the women were successful where the men were not doing as well. It is time, they are doing such a wonderful thing for themselves and their sisters.
