A radical notion...
I was watching some movie this weekend -- a comedy -- and they had the ubiquitous strip club scene.

I thought to myself... I wonder if the day will ever come when that sort of thing is viewed the same way as blackface is now... wondered if the word "bitch" ever be considered the same as the word "nigger"...

My husband thought it was a crazy idea... maybe it is... but it's stuck in my head, now.

1. I doubt it...
since women are not in agreement as to it being negative(strip clubs). As far as the word "bitch"...I watched a comedy show last week and the use of the n word was pretty commonplace. I think women also call themselves "bitch" in a postitive sense which will lead to it being a common rather than a stinging term.

2. I see what you're saying.
However even while blackface was prevalent, there were some black people who decried it as wrong... yes, some seemed to condone it, but many did not.

Comedy is a whole other subject... I'd rather not get into that debate here.

People who use pejorative words for themselves are not inviting others to call them that. I think the logic is simple, even though many try to get around it. For example, the word "nigger" (with a slightly different pronunciation is common in rap music, but you don't see a return to using "nigger" anywhere else in society.

3. Good point...
the pronunciation "nigga" is what the rappers use and within the community. I wonder if the term "biatch" has any correlation.

Just thinking out loud here.

4. Another thing that just hit me...
Males in prison for example, call submissive males "bitches" which leads me to see a contradiction. Strong, non submissive women are called bitches yet submissive men are also called the same term....

Also, within the male homosexual community, it is used as a term of endearment/humor.

I point this out since the etymology of the term is a female dog, yet males are being labeled bitches today.

My brain is churning...could this be a connection between homophobia and gynephobia?

5. Well, to me
there's an innate connection between homophobia and gynephobia. The feminine qualities seem to be what draw the most hate...

6. Power to seduce, perhaps?
Men are very susceptible to sexual seduction. Should that weakness not be noted and used to gain the upperhand?

I am asking hypothetically.

9. IMO, no.
Simply because it seems to me that that would draw even more hatred... no one appreciates being manipulated.

10. Only when they realize they are being manipulated.
Look at all the religious folk---

Not all manipulation is negative. Productive manipulation is the first lesson of good business.

7. You bet there's a connection
Sexual orientation being a continuum, most phobes out there have very strong homosexual leanings. This was proven by an experiment at UGA (I think, it was some years ago) that measured arousal by measuring erectile tissue as phobes and non phobes were shown both hetero and homosexual porn. The phobes universally experienced more arousal with the homosexual porn, thus proving Freud right about one thing.

Phobes who are repressing that side of their sexuality and struggling to remain straight tend to try to externalize it. They loathe what they see as feminine within themselves, and project that loathing onto women. Since they have to struggle to maintain straight sexual relationships, that adds another layer of resentment, since it becomes womens' fault that they're not aroused.

Homophobia is entirely justified when the object is the closeted, self-loathing gay who projects his disgust with himself onto both out gays and women. Much of the mischief done over the years in the name of sexual morality has been done by these guys, and they tend to be overwhelmingly right wing. We're right to fear them.

8. I don't fear them....
I fight them...

I don't think phobes are necessarily homosexuals but they fear the power of being seduced. Males are weak sexually, males, females, sheep, etc...
