Today's lame excuse for violation of discrimination laws....?
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 07:48 PM by bliss_eternal
Which I heard after calling a company that placed an ad, demanding photos from applicants. :eyes:

Yes, pet peeve of mine--given that women worked, sacrificed, fought (and in some cases died) so that we could have our voices heard, vote and not be discriminated against when applying for jobs today.

Anyway, today's uber-lame excuse,"....well, we just get so many applicants....sometimes over a hundred. We're not doing it to discriminate or anything.....having a picture just makes it easier..." It was just too stupid and painful, so I stopped the idiot gatekeeper there.

"I see. So you're too lazy to follow the laws of this state. It's just easier for you to take note of how they look BEFORE you even consider them for an interview, instead of...oh I don't know...looking at their experience and if they are qualified to do the actual job. Got it. I'm forwarding this information to the CA labor board, thanks."

:nopity::eyes::puke:

Was it a job I would be applying for? No. So, technically, none of my business. But given that another young lady or woman out there may NEED that job, (or one like it) and may not be aware that it is not required to submit a photo in this state....I made it my business. That shit is beyond illegal, and is not ok.

1. "Picture makes it easier?"
Bullshit. In fact, it goes beyond bullshit and into the realm of major creep factor, ala pimps

In other "non-traditional women's' occupation" news, well, my daughter's-- She's a corrections officer in a state penitentiary. (CRAP job, don't get me started) Anyway she's 7 months pregnant and wanted to get an extension for her marksman qualification, because she didn't want to expose her baby to the shooting range. Perfectly understandable. First, they (they meaning those in authority) told her to call in sick on that day, and the rescheduling should take care of the time frame. Well that didn't work. To make a long story short, they've put her on unpaid medical leave pending qualification on the range. This is the one that was in the army. She says even in the army, they would wait until post-partum until scheduling qualification. She's a weapons expert, or was.

I'm writing everybody up to the president. We care about life? We're all about the holy fetus? Put up or shut up motherfuckers.

(I needed to vent, women can't win so much of the time on any issue.)

2. Bullshit sounds about right.
The truly sad thing, was speaking to a rather clueless female gate-keeper. Yet another group of dudes who've found a woman to do their bidding for them. :eyes: A young (sounding) lass who clearly didn't get the ways how her employer's treatment of others may impact her in the future...you know....if they ever decide she's no longer (physically) attractive enough to "represent them."

:puke:

Oh and while I have my puke bucket out...
The more I hear about women's treatment within male dominated fields....the more pissed off I become. :grr::mad:

This shit makes me sick! The image of women as a national state-owned uterus, is trotted out for every election--so those assholes can compete on the basis of ....who believes life is most sacred. :eyes: Yeah....as if. :eyes: In situation's like your daughters, the underlying agenda comes through loud and clear.

"We could give a shit about women...the fetus is just the way we make ourselves seem compassionate and concerned."

Please keep me updated on this (either here, or through pm). Very sorry to hear your daughter is going through this. Clearly there's no consideration fot the stress they're putting a mother to be through, is there?

3. Good for you. And I don't know why anyone would think it was "none of you business."
Are you a resident of the USA? Then helping enforce the laws of this country is certainly your business.

4. Thanks, BlueIris...!
...I hadn't thought of it that way, but you are right! :hi::hug:

The list contacted me, letting me know the company changed their ad (in accordance w/state law). (Yay!) So apparently my call didn't fall on deaf ears. ;) Saying things like, "....do you want to be sued or lose your business?" tend to be taken seriously.
