Dance piece tells story of nurse injured in abortion clinic bombing

In 1998, New Woman All Women, an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Ala., was bombed. Emily Lyons, a nurse there, was severely wounded; she lost her left eye and had to undergo 20 operations.
"Eleven years ago, people told me, 'You should've died — you got what you deserved,'" Lyons said by phone from her home in Homewood, Ala.
This week, That Uppity Theatre Company will present a dance/theater piece inspired by Lyons' experience. "Becoming Emily," for which the company collaborated with dancers and choreographers, is based in part on "Life's Been a Blast," a book by Lyons and her husband, Jeff Lyons.
Recently, the production took on unexpected timeliness.
