First Woman, Gay British Poet Laureate Appointed
Hey BlueIris, this post is for you. I don't know much about poetry, but I like almost everything you post. All of it makes me think
"Britain appointed Carol Ann Duffy as the nation's poet laureate Friday and is the first woman and openly gay person to serve in the post. The position is nearly 350 years old and has been held by William Wordsworth, John Masefield, and Ted Hughes, among others. Duffy will serve a 10 year term"

Such wonderful, progressive news out of the UK! As the birthplace of many modern day "lad mags", I've come to not expect much from them as far as women (or glbt issues) are concerned. But this is progress, imo. Art is frequently the undercurrent to change. Through literature, poetry, film, music and art many hearts and minds are opened. Maybe not immediately, but it's a start.

Good on them, and Congratulations to the new Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy!
:applause::thumbsup:

Thanks for this, ismnotwasm! :hi:

3. That's really good news
and it could be a signal of real acceptance reaching a threshold in larger mainstream culture. :)
