I need some advice about where to get some advice
In the last few days I found out my sister is being abused. Long story but we have a bad history and I cannot directly help her. But I need to talk to someone about this and none of my friends are available when I can talk.

Is there an online place I can talk this over with someone?

1. I would go look up a local crisis line in your area.
Or Google "abuse" "women" "help," or something along those lines.

That's my polite way of saying "DU isn't really the place to find resources to help abused women."

Best of luck to you and your sister, though. No one deserves what she is going through.

2. Thanks - I'll see what I can find.
It is frustrating to know that she will never listen to me.

3. If there is one in your area
You might check with a court advocate. Your sister may never listen to you, but in case she has a moment where she does, a court advocate for intimate partner abuse can have a packet ready to go, on what to do legally and where to go. At least you'd have the info.

I'd also call a Women's shelter and see what informational material they have, what their bed availability usually is. If she needs you, it'll may be a small window of time where you can offer information.

I'm sorry to hear about this, it's frightening and heartbreaking.

4. Thanks for the ideas
My sister lives in a different town so I will have to see what is close to her and maybe get the info to her oldest daughter. This is a 50+ year old woman who had a loving marriage! I cannot understand what is going on.

Thanks!
