I fully intend to frame it.

1. well

If he makes it his first official act to repeal the global gag rule that was Bush's own first official act, that would be a start on proving the point.

Speaking as a mere outsider, I have to say I don't get it. What about Obama is it that qualifies him for this characterization?

10. Same here. He's pro-choice, but seems very traditional in his life and lifestyle. nt

4. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one
who was wondering that. I voted for him - heck I voted for him in my primary - but I never had any thoughts that he was a feminist. (Just because one isn't a misogynist, doesn't make one a feminist...)

7. You definitely aren't the only one.
I find it really discouraging that Ms. Magazine finds it appropriate to use him as an icon for what feminism looks like - for me, it reads like further confirmation of how far right we've swung.

2. Hmm
Photoshopped. Even Michelle Obama has declined to identify herself as a feminist. Unless something has changed recently.

Kinda cool though.;-)

5. It would be very nice if he is. But we'll see.
I'm not expecting much. While he's triangulating, maybe one of the points he'll triangulate from will be vaguely feminist.

I think it's a lot of wishful thinking so far.

6. I don't see a feminist in Obama,
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 02:59 AM by dancingAlone
and as someone up thread mentioned, neither is his wife. I have read that he does plan to repeal the global gag rule. It is the least I would expect of a (any) democratic president. I sure hope he does.

9. Looks like he repealed it today
And he also put out a statement in support of Roe vs. Wade. And the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay act has been passed, which I assume (hope?) he will sign.

I really like him, but I've been a little anxious about what he would do regarding women's and LBGT rights. So far, I'm encouraged.

8.  Maybe they want to encourage him and to show it is okay for a male to be a feminist?
Because he really isn't one now. Sigh.Lets see if he keeps his promise on FOCA.
