What do you think of this commercial?
This is kind of a spin-off on another thread.

"Keep Control" is an ad campaign designed to encourage responsible drinking.

Here's the commercial for it: (Watch the video)
http://www.keepcontrol.ca/a_v.html

I understand the noble intentions, but it came off as horribly sexist. It's kind of playing the old rape blame game - "If you get raped while drunk, you had it coming."

What do you think?

1. That ad is ambiguous.
It's unclear in the ad who has been drinking; him, her, or both of them. That would be the key to interpreting this ad. The one who was drinking is the one they're implying is responsible.

I don't think she look like she has been drinking, just crying. But then again, he doesn't look like he has been drinking either.

If people interpret this as her drinking, then you're right. It implies that she drank too much and caused her own rape. They both look fully sober, but she has clearly been crying. She doesn't speak in the add. Her appearance and silence could be seen as signs that she's the one who was drinking.

2. I get the same impression
But it really is ambiguous since neither of them appear drunk. It could be implying that only he's drunk and raped the women who was sober. She clearly didn't have trouble zipping her jacket, which would be tricky when drunk.

As a woman, I'd be the one being blamed so it comes across to me as implying it's her fault. So maybe I'm biased in my interpretation since I'm in the group that usually gets blamed.
