A female US president - when?
When will this become a reality, and how will it come about?
In my country, there's no controversy to a question like this anymore, we had a female prime minister in Gro Harlem Brundland for many years.

What will happen to the president as 'role model', and what will be the practical outcome of a female presidency? Will it be different than with a male one? This last one excluded, of course ;-)

IMHO the world would be a better place if the equality idea also was applied to the power figures. No miracles, but probably more commmon sense.

What do you think?

1. I think it is about time...
There are many able women and have been for decades that would make fine presidents. I don't think there would be much of a difference in outcomes however. Party politics seem to be the rule and I can't see that changing for a long time.(until a viable third party joins)

2. When? Who knows but it's been a long time coming
too long...

I think the 1st female President will start as Vice-President and inherit the job. Mainly because I can't see attitudes/thinking in America changing enough to actually elect a female at this time.

But who knows? My country might just fool me.

I never looked at any President as a role model and honestly don't get why people do. Though I can see a female President opening up new ways of thinking for little girls.(and little boys)

It wouldn't be any different than a male as President. Women can be corrupt, strong, assertive, aggressive, liars, cheats, good, bad, nice, mean, right, left, liberal, conservative, stupid, intelligent, caring, clueless, selfless, selfish...

It's not a woman's capabilities or range that's in question...it's how others perceive a woman in a role of power...

I agree....the equality idea applied to power figures would make the world a better place.

4. I'd like to say 2008
;-)

It honestly floors me that a majority of citizens of this country still feel we are not ready for a female President. There have been female leaders in Pakistan, the Phillippines, India, and other countries not noted as bastions of women's rights, yet it's inconceivable here? I mean, seriously...

:wtf:
