Too sexy to fly...?!

Airline said her outfit was revealing
Sept. 7: Kyla Ebbert tells TODAY's Matt Lauer exclusively how a Southwest flight attendant asked her to leave because of her attire.

Another woman dressed too sexy to fly?
Sept. 11: A California woman claims that Southwest Airlines nearly kicked her off a flight because of the way she was dressed. KNBC's Patrick Healy reports.

It doesn’t take much to get thrown off an airplane these days, as Kyla Ebbert found out when a Southwest Airlines employee told her she was too bare for the air. Two months later, she’s still trying to figure out what was wrong with her outfit.

In an exclusive appearance Friday on TODAY, Ebbert modeled the outfit she says she wore on the flight in question. It consisted of a snug-fitting white top with a scoop neck that stopped just short of showing cleavage.

Over the shirt was a green sweater that buttoned underneath her bosom. It was finished with high-heeled sandals and a white denim mini-skirt with a fashionably frayed hem.

1. That was the first of two people this happened to.
Another woman in Florida was only allowed on the plane when she agreed to use cover up because her clothing was deemed too revealing. And again, the picture they showed didn't show anything "too revealing." It was a dress. You can tell she has large breasts. She's not wearing a bra because of the style of the dress. Big deal.

If this happens one more time then we can be certain it's company policy to harass women based on what they wear.

3. Which will also mean...
...I won't fly with them. :grr::mad: That's bullshit and beyond wrong. How dare they dictate to a consumer what they deem appropriate.

I'm sick of hearing about airlines mistreating people. It's usually based on size, now they want to say someone's too attractive? :banghead:

4. "How dare they dictate to a consumer.."
Perhaps you mean, how dare they dictate to female customers?

I don't see them challenging men's fashions. x(

7. True....and thank you for pointing this out.
They have YET to tell any men that they are dressed inappropriately to fly on their airlines.
Such bullshit.

10. Unfortunately this is the airline my company uses
for trips to our HQ. Ugh.

Now lets see some men wearing spandex and small tank tops get on those planes. No problem most likely.

11. It sucks...
...because they are a VERY affordable airline. :( From a business standpoint, I can understand that. When flying up and down our coast, they are generally who I've used as well. They offer great rates. You can't help what your company offers and requires you to use.

2. This is so far over the line of ridiculous that I actually think it's
passed into sexual harassment. She's an attractive young woman with a patriarchally-approved sexxxay body and she was punished and shamed for letting people see it.

My husband asked me if I thought a skinny brunette woman with small breasts wearing the same outfit would have faced the same censure, and I don't think so.

5. It's that famous sexist double standard.
"You must be a sex object."
"We're going to punish you for being a sex object."

6. Perfect summary!
I've seen worse than that on my way to Hawaii. I think she looked cute and age appropriate for what's considered fashionable in this day and age. (In fact, it's kind of retro, I think I remember wearing something similar back in the stone age of the early eighties)

That being said, Matt Lauer always strikes me as a big creep, and whoever decided she was "too sexy" also had the creep factor at an all time high level.

8. I appreciate the discussion about this.
When I saw this story last night, my jaw dropped.
I wanted to talk about it, but didn't want to see the usual crap you get in other parts of the forum regarding women's issues.

Can you imagine what GD would do with this topic?
:scared:
