I don't know if I hit a plateau or what but I'm getting frustrated...
For many years of my adult life I've been way overweight. When I get on the Wii the bar was over the edge of obese.

I went to the doctor in October following a car accident. I topped the scales at 272 while I'm only 5'8".

I started eating better and walking more. Since October 2010 I dropped to 216.

And then stopped.

For the last several weeks I cannot get below 216 despite walking every day, logging what I eat and eating better foods.

In fact my weight goes up and then down, up and then down. My Wii looks like a roller coaster.

Today I weighed myself and still settled in at 216.5. While I'm delighted that I was able to drop the pounds I'm getting frustrated that it won't continue to go down.

Plateaus suck.

1. They do indeed suck
But they happen, unfortunately. Sometimes kicking up the calories a bit can help break a plateau.

Do you limit your carbs? I've found that that carbs are sneaky little things that make me want to snack more. I try to limit my carbs to complex ones in fruits and vegetables and severely limit those like breads, pasta, etc.

Also, are you losing inches while the scale stalls? That happens often.

Hang in there.

2. As a vegan...
It's hard to limit the carbs since most of our food is carb based...at least as far as I know. We fall into the parameters that they've set for carbs, but they're still the main portion of our diet.

3. Ahhh, I see. What do you have for protein?
I admit I don't know much about the vegan diet.

4. Gardein products
One of our favorites is the Scallopini. Here's the nutrition facts on them....

They make some amazing (and great protein) products that we enjoy greatly.

Most other products that we use also provide a lot of protein. The Boca burger provides 19 grams of protein with 8 grams of carbs.

We're trying to figure the whole thing out. It's challenging (and admittedly a bit scary) but also kind of fun.

5. I understand.
I have been at a plateau for quite a while. There seems to be no breaking this impasse.

I am on a 1200 calorie Seattle Sutton diet. I very seldom break the diet. Yesterday, I did have a piece of cake for my husband's birthday. The last time I cheated was for my own birthday, on August 31st.

I work out in the gym about four hours a week. Maybe I need more exercise. Who knows?

Good luck with your diet. I hope you start to lose again soon.

8. I wish you the best!
Paul and I recently joined SparkPeople (as others here have suggested). It's an interesting place (a tad overwhelming perhaps) but I'm hoping to learn more stuff there, too.

6. If you're counting calories and fat grams...
...cut about 100 calories, including at least 4 fat grams, a day from your current daily allowance. That'll kickstart things back in the right direction. Also, make sure that you eat at least a small meal, within a half hour of waking up every morning. Doing so will crank up your metabolism for the day and remind your body that it's time to start burning calories. And make sure that you're getting a good amount of dietary fiber, every day, too.

7. Thank you for the information, Fridays Child...
Though my mornings are your evenings (3rd shifter) I will do my best to try this out. Thank you kindly! :)
