Pizza, you have no hold on me tonight!
That's right! I stared down my enemy -- the pizza -- and kicked it's cheesy ass! Made it my beeeatch!

I'm following South Beach Diet and I'm in Phase 1: no sugars/carbs, like bread, spuds, and esp. pizza. :spank:

I had a committee mtg tonight and I knew there would be pizza. Oh Boy, it was hard, but I did it. Didn't touch a slice.

After the mtg I went out to eat and had a decent, suitable SBD meal.

Yippee!:toast:

I start Phase 2 tomorrow.

2. Excellent example of mind over matter!
Good for you for going to eat something healthy instead. It's not that we can't eat -- it's what we choose to eat. :yourock:

3. I had crustless pizza last night!
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 01:27 PM by Lisa0825
I did South Beach before, and now go by most of its principles. I am on the low carb part of it now too. But I was also craving pizza. So, I threw a handful of frozen onions and peppers under the broiler to evaporate some of the liquid, tossed in some mushrooms, tore up a slice of ham, added some pepperoni slices, covered it all with a couple dollops of pizza sauce and a third of a cup of mozzarella, and ate it with a spoon!LOL

I did this before without the onions and peppers, and calculated the stats on it via Fitday.com, and came up with:

4. Sounds yummy -- might try that!
I may substitute the meat for vegetarian options, but still... Yum!

BTW, how was your experience w/SBD?

Today I started Phase 2. So far so good.

5. I LOVED SBD... unfortunately, life experiences got me off-track
and I gained most back. I had a couple very stressful years and tend to do the whole "emotional eating" routine. I also had a string of injuries and couldn't work out for several months. So I absolutely do NOT blame my re-gain on SBD. It is a very healthy plan, and I learned a lot about myself and the way my body reacts to different foods while on it. For instance, I no longer get the mid morning munchies or the afternoon crash now that I know to eat enough protein for breakfast and lunch, as opposed to cereal or pasta.

11. LD, here's how I made it ...
I used Lisa's recipe as a guideline.

Sliced & quartered 1/2 an onion.
Sauteed 'til translucent w/garlic (garlic to taste).
Add 1 yellow pepper, sliced about same size as onion.
Add to cooked onions and sautee peppers 'til soft.
Once peppers and onions are soft, add 1Tbsp of tomato paste dissolved in 1/4 cup water to pan. Cook until thick.

Once onions & peppers are done, put in bowl. I put in vegetarian sausage, fresh mozzarella, and a bit of pizza sauce. I didn't put it in the oven, just let the warm onions & peppers melt the cheese. I suppose you could put the whole thing under the broiler until melty-goodness occurs!

It hit the spot last night!

6. Thanks for the encouragement!
I'm on day 2 of Phase 2 of South Beach (this is when I can reintroduce good carbs back into my diet.) I haven't experienced any kind of sugar cravings yet so the carbs I've chosen must be working! Yey!

I'm not constantly thinking about food all day. Double Yey!

I've started to eat a high fiber cereal in the morning and a tangerine in the afternoon/evening.

No more of these :donut: I don't want to be like a sugared-up 10 year old! :bounce:

7. The trick is to eat BEFORE you get there, or bring your own salad or whatever
that way you won't feel hungry watching everyone else eat it. Oh and the yummy smell! Damnit!

8. Normally I'd do it but that evening I had two mtgs. in a row...
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 05:39 PM by gizmonic
and had to dash from one to another. Didn't have time to grab a salad but did have some whole almonds and bottled water to hold me over. It did the trick.

The old me would have at least scarfed 3 or 4 slices.

The new me would probably :puke: :puke:

Still, a small victory for me!

:hi:

10. you did great, gizmonic!
Congratulations to you on overcoming such a strong temptation! I think its like exercising the mind muscles: just like you start to get stronger after physically working out, you get mentally stronger when you exercise those 'I will not be tempted' muscles!!

12. LD, thanks for the props!
It's been 5 days since the Pizza showdown :dilemma: and I'm still surprising myself with my new-found way of eating/living. I have to give South Beach a bit of credit, tho' ;)

Breaking my sugar/carb habit has really opened my eyes. I knew that the old me loved all the wrong foods but couldn't stop eating them. The new me can see that kind of eating was holding me back from losing weight.

17 days on South Beach and have lost 7lbs. Slow and steady wins the race!
