mduffy, how are you doing after surgery?
I've been thinking of you and wondering how you're managing. Please check in if you feel up to it. I know pain was an issue (boy can I relate). Hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

1. Well thank you for asking

I have been doing pretty good. I ended up having to stay in the hospital because they had to do more dissecting to get to my stomach then they originally thought, so that is causing more pain than usual. I am at home now and I am getting along. The hardest thing is the supplements that they want me to drink. My daily food intake is as follows: Carnation Instant Breakfast 5x's a day with a Flintstone Gummi Vitamin and a Viactiv Ca chew. I am so sick and tired of things with artificial sweetener. I am going to start to slowing introduce pureed foods this weekend and then in about 2 1/2 weeks I will slowly start on the soft foods and so-on and so-on. I was given plenty of pain meds and Compazine Supps to treat nausea because you don't want to be vomiting until the band has had a real chance to adhere, plus as a bonus I now have an excuse to put a finger up my own ass every six hours rather than my patients. :hurts: All in all it has been a positive experience, and in combination with the liquid diet before and now I have lost 20 pounds since the start of the month, 8 since Friday. I am really looking forward to this new chapter in my life. I am going to either repair my marriage or have to settle for her wishes for a divorce, get back into the stuff I used to do, but I have grown to heavy and out of shape. I will keep everyone up to date.

Thanks again

on edit: It didn't help the fact that they day that I got home from the hosptial it was 108 outside! On the shores of Lake Superior it isn't supposed to get that hot with a WIND OFF THE LAKE!!

2. I sure hope you do get to feeling better..
Once that band adheres you'll probably be a little more comfortable too and be able to enjoy some more variety in foods. I hated hated did I say HATED? protein supplements. I did find that Revival Soy shakes were the best for me though. The whey shakes made me want to throw up, just the smell of them!
I make the soy shakes with a bit of ice and some frozen fruit, yummy. 20gr protein per.

These hot days have been hell! I was SO hot last friday when I was released from hospital too. It's a two hour drive from where my surgeon works out of to home. Not a great ride on these Michigan roads when you have an abdominal incision!

Keep in touch, you'll be in my thoughts for a speedy recovery and a road to success!

Best wishes to you and your wife too, as you sort out your relationship. Been there, done that

3. feeling any better now?
I sure hope so. Have you tried any protein drinks at all. I wonder if there's enough nutrition in Carnation breakfast. Gotta keep up your strength.
