Just dropping in to say "hello"!
Edited on Tue May-16-06 04:35 PM by saracat
I haven't been here for a while. I went from 160 to 117 using Atkins and it is still working! I am now in maintenance and eating fruit , sweet potatoes and the occasional LC tortilla. I also eat nuts and LC ice cream! And I drink wine and LC mixed drinks when dining out. The WOE really works for me. I think if everyone just drank lots of water and gave up most carbs but salads and veggies one could see a difference fast. I have been maintaining for over six months. It took me 6 and one half months strictly following the book, but it was easy to lose my weight. And I lost another 8 pounds in maintenance! My original goal was 125! It can be done folks! I am proof

2. WOW! You are an inspiration!
That is just an amazing story! I keep making stabs at trying to lose my weight (I'm approx. 222 as we speak), and Atkins has been the best and easiest way for me to lose weight, when I've put my mind to it. did you stay at Induction the whole 6 months? Have you been exercising as you've been losing the weight? Or did you just diet?

Would you mind sharing some of your favorite Atkins recipes? That would be nice to know--

Again, you're an inspiration to me, and I'm sure many others here!! :bounce:

3. I stayed at induction much of the time

but I went by Atkins 92 so I ate cottage cheese which the newer versions discount. I ate a lot of eggs chicken pork and beef. Lots of tuna salad. My favorite recipe is LC cheesecake with pecan crust. I will post the recipe if you want! I thought it was pretty easy. I just stuck to simple stuff like omelettes and meat and slad with blue cheese dressing. I ate brie cheese as a treat and coffee with sugar free davinci syrup and heavy cream. Yum!
I began to swim and walk midway through, Now I hike and do pilates when I think about it! I will begin to swim again soon. I also rode my excercise bike for a couple of months , 30 min a day while watching TV.

5. your experience sounds do-able!

You sound like your approach was very balanced. Do you mind me asking if you are married? If so, how did you deal with feeding your significant other while you were doing Atkins? this is a logistical problem for me. I feel guilty not fixing him what he is used to, and he just won't eat a salad (with meat) for dinner.

Please post your LC cheesecake recipe! It sounds scrumptious! I know others will enjoy it too! I haven't heard of the sugar-free davinci syrups; what are they? what do you use them on/with? where do you get them? they sound delicious.

I have to get over my fear of getting in a bathing suit, as our complex has a pool, and its just outside my backdoor, and I could be doing water-walking.

I am so happy for your success, and will try to incorporate your suggestions- :hi:

ps. did you hit any plateaus on your way down, and how did you deal with them?

6. Da Vinci syrups
I can tell you about these. I bought a bunch of them when I was doing the liquid diet -- add the flavors to a chocolate or vanilla diet shake and it really perks them up. You can also add them coffee, tea, diet soda, yogurt, etc.

I ordered mine directly from the Da Vinci site. These are the same syrups that speciality coffee shops use -- both sugar-free and regular.

8.  I buy mine at TJ MAXX. They are cheaper there.
I am married and I just fed him the same as me with an ocassional starch thrown in. . You can also have a veggie with meat for dinner. There is a recipe for 'Fake potatoes usin cauliflower. Basicallt cooked cauliflower cream and cream chesse garlic salt and butter mashed up. Delish. it can be baked too! You can do lots with brocchli and cheese as well! BTW, Torani SF syrups are equally as good as Da Vinci and you can get those at Smart and Final for $3.99 a bottle! I have a caramel syrup and coffee with cream instead of dessert. It is delish too! Also you can use cottage cheese as a side dish for hubby. You can also make a pot roast with turnips instead of potatoes.

10. I'm an online gal, myself.
I rarely shop in person any more. I never cared for it and I live far enough out of town that it isn't convenient.

That said, I remember reading that you can get some of the sugar-free DaVinci syrup flavors at TJ MAXX and that the price is better.

I've had those "fake mashed potatoes" and even though I don't care that much for cauliflower, I did like the "potatoes!"

11. I'm like you Longhorn, and don't care too much for cauliflower
but if I can make them with cream and butter, that might work! I'll definitely give it a try...
