The last time I wanted a drink
was on Jan 19-20 2001.
It had been a couple of years since I had quit but the desire was still there.
ThenI saw a sign that said "Hail to the thief" on C-Spans coverage of the installation of bush and for some reason it gave me hope seeing that I was not the only one absolutely disgusted with what was happening.
After I saw that and all of the protestors the desire to pick up a drink left and has not come back.
Strange,huh?
My sponsor always said never forget your sense of gratitude. So I guess I can say there is one thing I am grateful to the shrub for.

1. I love your moment of clarity,

Conscious Evolution!

What date is your sobriety birthday?

Is it today?

:)

2. No
The last drink was Aug 30 1999.
Eight years ago was the last time I wanted a drink.

6. I think it was
because I instinctively knew he was gonna fuck things up for EVERYONE.The mindset that created in me sort of took myself out of myself in many ways.I think that helped a lot.

5. Over 3 years later, I still get the urge almost every day.
Then I think about the misery that comes with it. None for me, thanks!

7. About that urge to drink...please read Dr Bob's Stroy in the Big Book
On the last page of his story, he talks about his urges to drink..(I think it is the second or third paragraph from the end) Yes, he still has/had them, but this new way of life, was so much better..paraphrasing him.....He loved the joy and freedom it gave him..
...just the last page, a great view of these urges...thanks...

8. I haven't looked at any of those AA books since rehab.
They're certainly a good source of info and inspiration but I guess I go about it in a different manner compared to most folks in recovery. For about the first year I read that "24 Hours A Day" book. Back then, I was having a terrible time loosing my temper at work, or anywhere else, for that matter. Reading the thought for the day just before I clocked in really helped to put my mind at ease and raised my self esteem.

BTW, I don't want to give anybody the wrong idea... I don't recommend my "methods" to anyone that is trying to stay sober. Your chances of getting clean and staying that way are a lot better with a 12 step program like AA.
