ski poem
Edited on Tue May-31-05 08:47 PM by superconnected
Denver

Snow snap cold cap
rainbow colored skiers
winter chalet town
short breath
closed pass
likely forecast avalanche
they wanted to ski
I wanted to skate
fast jumping toe loop double axel backwards
spinning takeoffs
just before eleven they skied of the roof
I watched having never skied before
and knew I had to be airborne

Midnight trudge passed
green metal fences, signs, warnings
fear invoking quiet sleeping mountain
He asked who had something to live for
three nyes and I showed him my chest
where someone stole my heart out
and asked how can I live without a heart
Five rockets takeoff landing
newly awakened shattered shaking
fast running thoroughly destructive
liquid covered ground
threw me out into safe soft
gently saving snow
crashed ribs broken necks buried friends
deep freeze pops that cracked
when dug from the frozen
gurney carrying workers
found me ice covered numb unbroken trespasser

Photos questions everyone asks
why
shake shock terror awe
final report peer pressure bravery stupidity
sheriff declares tragic accident
calls everything but group suicide
coming home
fear of snow
cards presents calls letters
asking what's my next endeavor
but I've changed
no more missing heart cries
no more midnight snow glides
no more snow cap rainbow colored skiers
trying to invoke mother nature
to ride the ultimate ride.

I was considering it was too cryptic.

Usually my poems don't deal with disaster.

I'm not sure I understand it all, but your use of language is stunning. The second section had me breathless. Damn! I wish I could write like you.
