Graves Registration and PTSD.
There once was a corporal named Leach
who got assigned to clean Omaha Beach
he picked up feet and hands
and other loose parts from the sand
and a lesson that robbed him of speech.

1. This will be far too hard for most people to deal with
the emotional twisting of a humorous form to deal with the sort of horror that haunts survivors lives for 60-70 years after the event.

Please, can't someone give us a poem about kitties and soft clouds?

2. A very interesting use of the limerick...
I have one criticism concerning line four.
Consider removing "other" so that it reads "and loose parts from the sand. "Other" adds too many beats and violates the rhythm to my ear.

3. You're right about the meter
...I thought that hits just about the time realization that this limerick's funny fails. Maybe that was too over-thought.
