I happened to be sitting at a local Ruby Tuesdays having dinner when I heard a ruckus in the vicinity of the bar. The boos and jeers started low and got progressively louder. People threw popcorn and peanuts at the TV. Management finally turned the news channel off and ended the stunning coverage of Hillary shrieking at a "victory rally" in Florida. The crowd had already gathered; the conversations already begun and were not as easily ended. I assumed, in the middle of red state TN, that the angered people were Republicans. I assumed wrong, for as I approached the gathering, the talk was centered on her lack of character, lack of shame and dirty politics in general. "What a bitch", seemed to be the most repeated phrase, followed closely by "what the hell does she think she's doing?" There were a few Ron Paul supporters in the mix, but by and large these were Democrats - young and old - who were engaged and informed and thoroughly disgusted. I walked away, also disgusted by Clinton, but bouyed and encouraged by the outrage of this lively crowd in East Tennessee.
She may think this stunt is "cute" and politically savvy, but it comes across like she does: Cold and shrewd and heartless, undignified, crass and vile. There is a grassroots rebellion against the establishment, against politics as usual, against "win at any cost", against deceit and dishonor. While I cannot, in adequate words, portray my personal loathing and disgust, I can say without a shred of doubt that no person with such an obvious deficit of moral leadership & character and with such a blatant disregard for integrity and honor will ever again be elected to the highest office in this land. After eight long years of darkness, the people clamor for light and Hope, and they will have it.
