Just What Did Obama Know About Wright's Past Sermons?
Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 02:18 AM by jackson_dem
The article begins by mentioning Obama's public statements that he didn't know Wright was a bigot.

-snip-

But according to a New York Times story from a year ago, the Obama campaign dis-invited Wright from delivering a public invocation at Obama's candidacy announcement.

“Fifteen minutes before Shabbos I get a call from Barack,” Wright told the Times. “One of his members had talked him into uninviting me."

In a phone call with Wright, Obama cited a Rolling Stone story, “The Radical Roots of Barack Obama," (the name of which has curiously been changed on the RS website) and “You can get kind of rough in the sermons, so what we’ve decided is that it’s best for you not to be out there in public.”

That story included the following passage: "The Trinity United Church of Christ, the church that Barack Obama attends in Chicago, is at once vast and unprepossessing, a big structure a couple of blocks from the projects, in the long open sore of a ghetto on the city's far South Side. The church is a leftover vision from the Sixties of what a black nationalist future might look like. There's the testifying fervor of the black church, the Afrocentric Bible readings, even the odd dashiki. And there is the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, a sprawling, profane bear of a preacher, a kind of black ministerial institution, with his own radio shows and guest preaching gigs across the country. Wright takes the pulpit here one Sunday and solemnly, sonorously declares that he will recite 10 essential facts about the United States. 'Fact number one: We've got more black men in prison than there are in college,' he intones. 'Fact number two: Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!' There is thumping applause; Wright has a cadence and power that make Obama sound like John Kerry. Now the reverend begins to preach. 'We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns and the training of professional KILLERS. ... We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God. ... We conducted radiation experiments on our own people. ... We care nothing about human life if the ends justify the means!" The crowd whoops and amens as Wright builds to his climax: 'And. And. And! GAWD! Has GOT! To be SICK! OF THIS S***!'"

1. Pants on Fire
Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Well, his disavowals on TV weren't really very convincing.

Obama is serious bad news, he has to go. He will ruin the Democratic Party.

He's wounded it pretty badly already, but if he goes I think it can recover fairly quickly.

6. He has talked tough on it and set the standard by which he has to be measured
He has said when someone makes remarks like that you must speak out, that if he knew about Wright making such comments he would have spoken out, etc. When, not if, it gets proven that he knew he is done. He would have been better off admitting he once agreed with Wright but changed his mind.

2. And then there's the July 22 sermon where he participated - witnessed by the Newsmax guy
slimy as the source is, the real time/eye witness kinda makes the case, especially as the article is written way BEFORE Obama's denials:

In fact, Obama was in attendance at the church when these statements were made on July 22.

3. And when he says, there's 'nothing particularly controversial about his church'...
...it can be construed to mean he's comfortable with and approves of the message, no? His disavowals just won't wash. His actions betray a very close friendship and mentorship between the two, and I think many people see the contradictions between words and actions.

That newsmax article is pretty damning to me, short of an actual photograph or video of BO in attendance during those incendiary sermons. He was seen to be nodding his head in agreement, too, with certain pronouncements of J Wright, according to the newsmax story.

Wonder why he didn't see that this was going to bite him in the behind sooner or later, and bite hard. Certainly doesn't speak well of his judgment - either very naive and foolish, or just a liar for political gain. While I may not totally disagree with some other leftish points about foreign policy in some of Wright's speeches, and ignoring the false description of BO as 'not rich, not privileged', too - well, racism is racism, no matter the colour of the speaker's skin. Even I, who am not white (Asian), felt very disturbed by those divisive words.

I'm wondering what people in the Hillary campaign are thinking about all this. Will just probably wait till the smoke clears. Love their response - 'that's really for BO to address.'

4. You know when I read there would be a media announcement at 12:15 ET
From the Clinton camp yesterday addressing the Wright issue, I was burning up the phone calling Va and spoke to one of her people and asked do you know Penn, she said, yes, I work for him in the campaign. I said, please tell him at his press conference not to say anything about Wright but please tell them to just let Obama address it. I said, it already has enough negative media coverage and Clinton doesn't need to get involved. I don't know if my calling made a difference or not but they said the right thing in the conference.

7. Those are public sermons
I am sure he heard much worse hate filled talk in private. They are confidants. How stupid could people possibly be?

10. Obama saying he disagrees with Wright
means every time he sits in the
pew he is living a lie.
Wright bases his teachings on
Black Liberation Theology.

Here is a link that lays it out,
not that I condone this site but
it does break it down with links.
http://www.salemthesoldier.us/jonsson_obama_2008_series_01.html

It is representative of the quiet
fire that is burning through the
white Christian communities because
of the Wright fiasco.
