I am almost 3 days smoke free
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 04:42 AM by Biased Liberal Media
This is hard...especially when everyone in my apartment complex smokes and I smell the smoke wafting through my window. I can't not keep the window open- no A/C and it's warm to me.

This hasn't been an easy road- to make a long story short I was forced into it by my husband and I was pissed about it (he quit because his company is going smoke free next year- no smoking on the premises), but I'm really sticking to it this time. I haven't made it to day 3 in a VERY long time (i'd have to say since I quit when I found out I was preg with our daughter back in July/August 1999) and things have been hellish for me lately (sick daughter last week, just got back from vacation, had a talk about divorce with my husband <not over smoking, it's long overdue>. Maybe it's not the best time to try to quit, but I'm really trying here and didn't realize this group was here...I could use all the support I can get.

Thanks! :)

1. There is never a bad time to quit smoking
I've gone 3.5 weeks now and let me tell you, it gets easier every day past day 3 or 4. So if you make it past the next couple of days it's all down hill from there. It still won't be easy, but I think you will notice that it's not as difficult to tell yourself no after today or tomorrow.

2. I'm on day 7.
The nic-fits are less frequent now and don't last as long. The first 3 days is the worst. All of my roommates smoke. One of them kept on throwing cigarettes at me but stopped after I started flushing them down the toilet. I had a number of problems arise within the first few days that stressed me out and really made me want a smoke. Don't let yourself make up any excuses. It will start getting easier real soon.

3. Update: going onto day 5
Past two days were easy, but Saturday was the hardest. I almost smoked but I didn't. The support I get from my ILs doesn't help either- "I won't tell if you smoke- have one of mine!" :eyes: yeah, but I'll know! WTF??

4. Thanks for the update and the assistance . . .
A coworker today said to me almost the exact words your ILs used and it would have been so easy for me to have one then and there, but I had already read your post so I recognized the position I was in and I didn't. Thanks!

(What does IL stand for, btw?)
