Today would be my Dad's 84th birthday
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 12:06 PM by livetohike
He passed away on Nov. 8, 2004. Our birthdays were six days apart and when I was growing up we would celebrate with a trip to the ballpark to see our Pirates play at Forbes Field. One of the last things my Dad and I did together was watch the World Series from his hospital room. By then the Fentanyl patch was kicking in, but he was conscious enough to know that the Red Sox won the series.

He proudly wore his Kerry/Edwards button on his hospital gown. It would be the first election of his life in which he didn't get to vote....he died knowing that Bush (or Dumbo as he called him) won.

I miss you Daddy. Happy Birthday! I'll toast some Seagrams for you today :toast:. Na zdravje!

3. Thanks Rev!
 He was a character - a retired steelworker,WWII vet, strong union guy and lifelong Dem. He was born in Czechoslovakia and came here when he was 5. Everything I know about politics, well mostly everything, I learned from my Dad .

4. Happy Birthday to you and to your Dad.
Don't you think he'd like the way the election is going in 2008? Celebrate those fond memories.

5. Thanks yellerpup
 He would absolutely love it! Obama visited the steel mill that my Dad (and Grandfather too) retired from in Braddock, PA before the Pennsylvania primary. We will be celebrating in November and I'll toast to the memory of my Dad :-).

Thanks for your kind response .

6. Your dad sounds like a wonderful man
With a great personality and sense of humor who had a very interesting and diverse life. As has already been said, you were fortunate to have him as such a big part of your life just as he was fortunate to have you as a part of his life. It sounds like at least you got the chance to have some good quality time with him while he was alive
