Diabetics; before getting diagnosed, did you suffer from hypoglycemia?
I've been having some weird stuff happen lately and it's only getting worse.

EVERY symptom falls ker-plunk into the realm of hypoglycemia. (though weight loss isn't mentioned and it's odd how I can eat candy bar after candy bar to feel better and still notice that I can see my old surgery scar, which I couldn't 7 months ago because it was all blubber. And I've not been doing enough exercise to justify all that blubber burnin'!)

http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/hypoglycemia/

Symptoms of hypoglycemia include

* hunger
* nervousness and shakiness
* perspiration
* dizziness or light-headedness
* sleepiness
* confusion
* difficulty speaking
* feeling anxious or weak

Hypoglycemia can also happen while you are sleeping. You might

* cry out or have nightmares
* find that your pajamas or sheets are damp from perspiration
* feel tired, irritable, or confused when you wake up

Every. Single. One.

This afternoon, I even noticed sweating where I've never sweat before in a sitting position.

This is an informal poll ONLY. I am consulting my physician tomorrow as my symptoms now seem consistent enough to warrant a visit. I am only curious to get other DUer's situations, if they choose to respond.

1. Not How It Works
Hypoglycemia in diabetics is a drug-induced, ether from taking too much insulin or taking oral agents and not eating enough. Untreated diabetics suffer HYPERglycemia. Symptoms of HYPERglycemia include: excessive thirst, excessive urination, unexplained weight loss, 'fruity' smelling breath and 'sweet' smelling urine (diabetes mellitus literally means sweet urine).

If you are really HYPOglycemic enough to become diaphoretic (which is ulikely) you are probably not diabetic but have either severe liver disease or severe digestive tract disease.

2. Oh dear...

Well, my lowest reading (on record) was 76 (my highest fasting rate to date being 86 which is odd as it used to be consistently about 104 so something's definitely different) and I was only feeling slightly woozy when I took that '76' reading.

I still have insufficient evidence, but as my meter is now with me ALL the time, the moment I really start to feel icky I can do a reading in order to rule things out.

I have had digestive problems before that the docs couldn't figure out...

But it's all good and it's a matter of time and I will prevail.

3. Normal Range For Normal People is 60-120 Fasting
So you're WELL within normal. I'm diabetic on oral meds only (and a very old one at that) and my fasting BG is often 87. 76 is not at all hypoglycemic.

Be happy! You're not diabetic! Diabetes is a terrible disease. It's more than watching blood glucose levels; it's a little cut on the leg turning into necrotizing fasciitis. It's kidney diease and nerve damage, even if BG levels are kept normal. It's heart disease. It's not at all glamorous or fun. Be glad you don't have it.
