Has anyone been on an anti-candida diet before or have the symptoms of it?
Edited on Sat Apr-04-09 07:02 PM by Maraya1969
Some people may not believe in it but it has caused hell in my life. I was treated by a holistic doctor years ago and he helped me so much. I lost about 60 pounds too. He would find out what foods I was allergic to and I had to stay off all of them. Of course this sent me to the health food store nd had me eating a very healthy diet.

I just sent in my information to him again, (I lived in NJ before and that is where I actually went to see him. Since then as treated me long distance since I am in Florida now) and found out it could not be delivered, (I probably put on the wrong address) and is coming back to me. I'm really upset about this because I want to start the treatment because I feel so shitty.

I might just call them and ask for a few general supplements they prescribed for the candida and get them from the health food store and start taking them. I know this is going to be a costly treatment because I've gone through it several times.

Some people may think candida is a bullshit diagnosis but I can tell you from experience it is not.

Identifying Candida Symptoms

Candida is nearly an epidemic in our society and is responsible for many of the chronic illness categories we see so frequently. Candida symptoms are vast and all encompassing and can even incapacitate the individual.

Most people are unaware that it even exists, because most main stream doctors are uneducated about its impact on our health. People suffering from this condition often go from doctor to doctor for years and are usually told they are a hypochondriac or that it is stress or a psychiatric problem, before ever discovering the real culprit.

Candida Albicans is a yeast that occurs naturally in the human body. Normally it lives in harmony with a variety of other microorganisms and actually performs a couple important functions. The problem occurs when something upsets the balance of bacteria in the body and this allows the yeast organism to proliferate and take over all the healthy microorganisms.

It normally resides in the intestinal tract, mouth, throat and genitals, however it can burrow holes in the intestinal tract, enter the blood stream and then make it's way into any organ of the body. To make matters worse it emits over 70 different toxins into the body. Some people may even become allergic to the yeast itself.

Once this hardy organism proliferates in the body, it wrecks havock in many ways and is the insitigator of many common maladies, conditions, syndromes and illnesses in our population.

Some of the most frequent Candida symptoms are:

* abdominal gas

* headaches

* migraines

* excessive fatigue

* cravings for alcohol

* anxiety

* vaginitis

* rectal itching

* cravings for sweets

* inability to think clearly or concentrate

* hyperactivity

* mood swings

* diarrhea

* constipation

* muscle weakness

* irritability

* sensitivity to fragrances and/or other chemicals

* cognitive impairment

1. Most of those complaints happen to anybody with a body
so I can't take them too seriously. Vaginal yeast infections can sometimes be treated with yogurt containing active cultures or OTC medication if it doesn't work. Thrush is a little more serious and requires an antifungal medication, usually nystatin, along with a serious evaluation for what is causing the suppressed immune system.

OTC medications will usually control athlete's foot.

Systemic yeast infections do happen but are confined to people with seriously compromised immune systems, like AIDS patients and cancer patients on high dose chemotherapy. The only thing that will cure them is a course of IV amphotericin, an ugly drug we nurses called "amphoterrible."

However, if some diet makes you feel better and it's not a deficiency diet, by all means pursue it.

2. To be simple about it
yeast feeds on sugar, or things that quickly break down into sugar. We always have some yeast growing in us. But if there's too much, it can cause problems.

So, in the immediate sense, you need to cut back or eleminate as much simple sugar foods as possible:

alcohol
baked goods
sugary drinks

If you do really have thrush, that needs to be treated with meds like warpy said. But to control yeast growth in a healthy body, watch your sugar and other simple carb intake.

3. Is your doctor Dr. William T. Kelly?
It sounded a little like him since you are able to send your "information" through the mail.

Anyway I have contacted him again and am waiting for a reply back. Heave helped me so much in the past. Now I am sick again and have gained a tremendous amount of weight and have joint problems to boot. I know the joint problems will go away if I get on the anti-candida, anti-food allergy diet.

I know I am going to spend a lot of money but I don't care. My health is more important.

4. Yes and yes.
It's a long story that I don't have the energy to lay out completely but...

About 12-13 years ago I crashed. The first thing I clearly remember is waking up one morning with a blistering, red rash around my mouth - in much the same shape as a goatee. It was horrible looking, and because I was a waitress and it looked rather disgusting that was when I stopped working. Backing up a bit - I'd had a small rashy spot on my face for a long time - it gradually grew to pea size and stopped there. For months? Maybe a year. I woke up one morning to what I described above. Out of nowhere. In the next months I had a multitude of different symptoms - most very bizarre. Woke up one morning to a lower lip so swollen it looked cartoonish. It happend again and a different time but it was both lips. SEVERE itching all over my body. Absolutely zero energy. Inability to get out of bed just to feed and water the cats. There's a ton more but....

Doctors didn't do shit. The final straw was that they put me on anti-depressants calling me borderline clinical. WTF? I was frustrated as HELL that my life was gone but I wasn't depressed. I did a ton of online research and kept coming back to candida. I finally felt so bad that I was willing to try ANYTHING - so I went for the diet.

I've never done anything so strict in my life! I've never been the same since bottoming out like that, but the diet is what finally allowed me to get out of bed and start faking my way through a normal life again. I quit the diet... well, I'm not sure exactly but I've been at my current job 8.5 years and I was on it for a while after I started there. I started gaining some weight (although I've never been what anyone would call heavy) back - + 5 or 10 pounds - and it moves up and down within that range still.

I've since been diagnosed w/ Fibromyalgia (sometime in the last 8 years) and myofascial pain syndrome. Been repeatedly tested for lupus. I got asthma 6 or 7 years ago. I am suspected to have a sleep disorder and am waiting on an appointment for a sleep study. After being repeatedly tested for thyroid issues I was recently tested again by a different doctor and showed a high TSH (no idea what my numbers were previously - I've discovered that what many doctors consider normal can still indicate thyroid disorder) and have been taking Synthroid for a month. I'm exhausted and - within the last week or two have started considering candida again. Another facial rash (although not of the severity listed above), recurrent (or never able to be cured, period) yeast infections and athlete's foot. I've found some new literature available since I dealt with this last and have ordered some new books, one having arrived but that I haven't had the chance to read yet. I'm starting to think about the diet again. I don't want to. :( It's got to be THE most restricting diet there is.

Anyway - I've been down this path before and it looks like I may be about to head down it again.
