Anyone had carpal tunnel surgery? And what were the results? Today I had
a nerve conduction test on my right hand. Shocks here and there on my arm, and the neurologist explained the little waves on the monitor. My results were very bad--almost off the chart. I've had this problem for maybe 2 years.

He recommended surgery, a very small incision in the heel (my term) of the hand. Results take about 6 months. I guess I'll find a good surgeon to do it.

Anyone else have this surgery???

3. My husband and his sister both had it. He was out of work for a
week, his hand is now good as new. She had to have both hands done and her healing took a bit longer, but she too is now okay. It works!

4. When I came up out of anesthesia after having my first hand done,
it was the hand that hadn't been operated on that hurt! The relief was immediate and wonderful. It's about ten years on and my hands are still pain free. (I didn't have a general anesthesia, but valium knocks me right out.)

5. excellent excellent excellent
And in about 18 months you can't even see a scar at the surgical site. I can't believe my doctor tortured me with ten fucking years of 'conservative' treatment. Conservative is getting surgery right away because you are going to need it eventually.

6. my surgery for carpal tunnel was about 35 years ago-
thats when they did both hands at the same time, which is not done these days.
I also had a 3 months old baby. Needless to say, I had some help for about
one month. After that, I have been pain free and no problems ever.
The only pain-other than the constant ache- was the electric monitoring of
the nerve impulses, which was a bitch. Have the surgery, you will not ever
regret it.

7. I have a question re: carpal tunnel. Do your arms ache mainly from
the wrist to the elbow, and some inability to lift heavy objects.

I was at the bank and used my left hand to take out the tube in the drive thru and my arm could hardly h old this plastic piece. I cannot open water bottles, let alone any other jars No strength in hands.

Are these also side effects?

Thanks for any info.

I've heard stories about the surgery....and it's about 50/50...so I would assume it depends on the patient's problem AND the doctors ability to diagnose and do the surgery successfully.

8. My experience; wrist to elbow, and I did lose ability to lift. I had terrific results
from wearing a brace, though. Surgery was originally recommended, but I'm a bad surgery candidate for several reasons, so I sought a second opinion.

New doctor gave me a brace and it has helped tremendously. The worst of it has cleared up and when it flares up, I just wear the brace to bed a couple of nights and that seems to take care of it.
