KOEB Weekend Meeting Thread :) RevCheese Edition !
Sorry, the Friday thread got too long for my cranky ole' dial-up...

I know how RevCheese feels, been there all too often, even here on KO's Group! But it looks like Skinner's had a worse meltdown, among the 800+ post responses on his thread in the Lounge that stand out to me are the one's from our group.

:loveya: :grouphug: :loveya:

This has been a great weekend for the Crispini GD KO Action Alert thread. Couldn't help but notice not all the KOEB members "attended" the thread. Still, it was a success in letting MSNBC know how we, the DU community, feel about Keith.

I just hope it's enough, and that those who helped with the campaign, were polite :)

Hope everybody's having a great weekend, and taking Skinner and Cheese's advice, to stop and smell the flowers :)

. . . O-kay!
(Good idea to have a new thread for the weekend -- even if we still aren't quite finished w/ Friday!)

Here's a little girl...

And a little boy

And gotta have a kitty:

And don't forget the sunflowers!

Getting ready to head out the door but had to give you one more stop and smell the flowers photo. Maybe it will spread some smiles.

Even gargoyles take a break and stop to smell the flowers. Though they aren't suppose to get caught at it.

4. Sorry WG ! But when there's over 300 posts and
...including beautiful photography, my computer blows up during the download (well, nicer to say I get thrown offline, AOL's a bitch!).

Guess you could finish your Friday discussion anyhow, that wasn't my intention to usurp the group dynamic :)

Oh, the smelling the flower reference was from Skinner, who had a very bad week in Lounge Wars :::sigh::: Here's the latest post:

8. Yes, AGREED, Catch, it is a good idea to have a new weekend thread...
. . . both for those who aren't still posting on the old one... and for those of us who are posting on this one AND the other one!

But maybe I shouldn't have begun by posting all those pitchahs?

I'll try to find smaller ones next time. Remember too well what dial-up wuz like!

17. I'm happy to see any and all threads in our clubhouse....
...and why I dedicated this one to Rev. I'm just a posting fool, I suppose, but probably won't be starting any more meeting threads. That's "hard work" :)

We should have a special photo thread too! Like Hope's positive upbeat subjects to keep us all focused and staying the course here, and on the rest of DU :)

The Photography Group is my favorite place to lurk :)

24. I'm just like a kid with a new toy, Catch. This was the first week ...
. . . (or maybe it was last week) that I understood how to post a link to a photo and have it show up as an image instead of a link -- and right after I made the jump to highspeed, too! Makes it possible to do sight gags or illustrate what I'm talking about, like I've seen other people do. So much fun!

But I thank you for reminding me about how long it takes dial-uppers to load all those goodies. Before getting highspeed I sometimes waited 10 minutes for the thread to reload after sending a post. Eventually I'd have to bail and wait until after the show, then come back and fill in my thoughts.

The funny thing is, it didn't seem as much like a hardship then as it does NOW! When the highspeed was down and I had to go back temporarily to dial-up, the advantage we highspeeders have really hit home!

Fed the cat a zillion times.

Gone out to lunch with my sis and parents.

Bought my first digital camera so you all *may* shortly see my 14 pound tomcat in all his glory.

Worked on my genealogy.

Decided what I'm going to say in my letter to MSNBC.

And admired my roses, peonies and iris.:woohoo:

It's difficult for me to hold a standard camera to my eye and snap a picture. This way I can steady the camera and frame the picture easily.

36. Aww, you guys are the best!
:grouphug:

Today was an odd day. I couldn't sleep well last night, and finally fell asleep around 3:30 or so. No surprise then, that I didn't hear my alarm clock, and woke up at 8:25 (my first service, 18 miles away, begins at 8:30). So I called a member who lives near the church, offered profuse apologies, and they cancelled services.

My second service is 1 block away from my parsonage, so thankfully, I made it there in time. But once I got home, I passed out and slept another 4 hours. Yet, somehow, the Spirit leads, and God is glorified, in spite of a remarkably human pastor.

Your PM's, and thread messages, and especially this thread, means more to me than I can possibly express.

I have two requests:

If you would, please say a prayer for Roo. He just isn't eating much at all, and isn't grooming, or snuggling with Binky (all things he loves to do). I'm taking him back to the vet this week - or may just go find another vet, to see if they can do something about his bad tooth.

Secondly, for those who have axes to grind, issues to air, etc., would you please take it somewhere else? I was shocked when this kind of behavior happened in the Christian Liberals group last Easter, and very disappointed that the same things seems to be happening here in the KOEB. I'll give y'all fair warning: if I see inappropriate behavior, I WILL alert the mods as to what's going on. There's enough animosity in the world, and more than enough at DU lately - we certainly don't need to pile on here. Capiche? ;)

Thanks, all! To The Ties That Bind (and occasionally chafe) :toast:

Needs some more removed, too, poor baby. Having bad kitty teeth does upset them. Of course, they won't show how they feel until they are really sick so I hope the vet will help Roo. My cat perked up afterwards so don't give up hope, Rev!

Whole milk.

I drink skim, or 1%. I've occasionally tried 2%, but they didn't seem interested. But today, I thought "why not try it?" My problem now is keeping Binky away while Roo is drinking. For some reason, they ignore the glass by itself. But if I hold the glass in my hand, boy, do they want that milk!

You definately got that one right: I am their slave.

47. Good!!
If the cow's milk starts to upset his system, goat's milk might go down easier. I second what Gogi said about not getting too discouraged about his Roo's current malaise; I remember how low Klaus Kitski got when some of his teeth were going bad, but he bounced right back after they were gone.

(Boy, can you guys chatter. I'm never gonna catch up on last week...)

45. Get well thoughts for Roo !
It's such a helpless feeling having our little furbabies under the weather like that and wanting so much to make that boo-boo go away! Sounds like they need to pull that tooth. The good sign, he's eating. If his mouth hurts to chew right now, maybe some strained chicken will provide more fuel for him? Of course, ask your vet first, as I'm not sure if Roo's on any special diet requirements. You can PM me for more handy hints :)

You made me think of Erma Bombeck's book "The Ties that Bind and Gag"! Which I believe was about family life! :silly:

49. Well, he enjoys water-packed tuna...
but will only nibble at this point. The other two cats are getting a bit too chunky (looking like their "mom"), because it's hard to feed just one!

I opened a can of salmon the other day. It looked disgusting - it was a "store-brand" (Flavorite), and there were bones throughout, etc. But I picked thru the bones, and added a little warm water. He seemed to enjoy that, too - but again, only ate a bit.

He turns up his nose at the baby food right now. I think he'd like it better if I added salt...but I wonder if the salt hurts his mouth.

Another favorite is yogurt. The vet said that yogurt is actually helpful in keeping the stomach bacteria in line (I didn't know that, since I thought yogurt WAS bacteria!)

At this point, I'll take any and all advice you'd be willing to give.

50. So other than a bad tooth,
anything else going on? How old is he? You may want to try taking a fingerful of the baby food and put it on the roof of his mouth. Only use the strained pure meat varieties....check with the vet, of course, but chicken and lamb are pretty agreeable with upset tummies. If push comes to shove, make a gruel, add water to make it soupy, then use an oral syringe (drug stores have these for human babies' liquid meds!), and slowly push it into his mouth. He'll swallow some.

Hold off on the salt, not good for his blood pressure :)

I'm assuming the vet doesn't care what he eats? You may want to ask the vet for a can of a specific Prescription Diet (c/d, r/d, k/d ?)whatever he recommends, make a gruel of that too and feed with the oral syringe. Otherwise, you can try a can of feline age appropriate Science Diet (found at the vet or pet supply stores).

Is he drinking enough? You may want to drizzle water in his mouth to keep him hydrated.

Also, boil some fresh chicken, offer him some bite size pieces, use the stock to make your gruel!

And, don't forget our DU friends in the Pets Group, there's some very knowledgable people there!

I worked for a vet for a long time, but that was 10 years ago, things may have changed :)

 <---for you and Roo !

51. All three are 15.
I guess what disappoints me is that the first thing the vet said was "the average life-expectancy for a cat is 14." That was a bit off-putting, quite frankly.

I'll try the baby-food again, and will probably get some chicken. At least the other two will be happy with that. :)

I also liked CC's suggestion that sometimes they eat more when you hold them (he does want to cuddle, at times).

Thanks, Catch! (and thanks for the thread, too!)

52. Our CC gave great advice !
Yes, set up a feeding station on a warm lap ! Let the other kids stay nearby, and possibly share the goodies. Sometimes this makes the problem child "remember" to eat too.....nothing like a little competition at the dinner lap :)

I've know many, many kitties (and doggies) live well into their late teens because of the good life provided by their humans....

As I mentioned before, always feel free to PM me, anytime! With 3 seniors, I'm ready, willing and able to give copious cyberhugs for you and your crew.

AND, never, EVER forget, whatever happens, how lucky they've been, all these years, to have you in their life!

Sidebar: Probably why I jumped from veterinary world to animal rights activist....every companion animal should live 'La Vida Loca' their entire natural life! Of course, this is what makes me a bleeding heart liberal
