Just back from the Land of Lincoln, and I don't like to hear him trashed.

1. oh, christ on a cracker!
I loves ya, bleev - I really, really do. But I will NOT participate in that wretched thread. Looks like the freepers are out in full force tonight. :puke:

BTW - I agree with you. The Gettysburg Address is indeed one of the best speeches ever written. :patriot:

4. Hi Rev
Got something for you.

And it is a Methodist Church close by..

...with horse parking.

:hi: Bleever
And for every one in the group, the story or my trip to the grocery store the other day. I had to get away from all the hammering for a bit. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=280x14903

shut down but did post for you, though just agreed with the Rev. If you ever get the chance go to Antietam Battlefield (Sharpsburg if you are from the south.) It is almost like it was at the time, even to them planting corn in the same fields that were cornfields during the battle. They have also replanted trees to become forest where there were forest during the Civil War. It can be heartbreaking to stand in the tower and look down along Bloody Lane. Though I always loved going to Gettysburg, Antietam is much more real for lack of better words.

7. Of the people, by the people, for the people.
It's such a simple idea...maybe it's TOO simple for some people to grasp.

But that's democracy. In less than 10 words.

If we give up on that, we give up on America.

It's one of the reasons I'd like to see us do away with the electoral college and choose our presidents by popular vote. It may be too much to ask that we abandon the idea of representative government, but I do think it's time to abandon the concept of the representative electors. The one the PEOPLE directly choose should be president...not winner-take-all by such arbitrary things as states.

And I have not yet really done a "tour of America," but the more I think about it, the more I want to. When I was a child, my family was too poor for us to go on vacation touring the country and seeing the sights important in its history. I feel as if this is a hole in my experience that I should go about filling soon.

8. You'd appreciate it all so much more, now that you're grown up.
The childhood experiences were great, but revisiting now I'm much more in awe, and curious about seeing and understanding everything.
