The Republican-controlled Senate on Tuesday easily defeated a Democratic effort to call for President Bush to outline a timetable for a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Republicans countered with their own alternative, urging that 2006 "should be a period of significant transition to full Iraqi sovereignty," with Iraqi forces taking the lead in providing security - a step lawmakers hope will speed a reduction of U.S. forces.

World's safest pastries? That could be the new marketing slogan for Dunkin' Donuts, thanks to nearly $20 million in federally guaranteed loans that were granted to more than two dozen franchises across the East Coast - under a program designed to help businesses recover from 9/11. Problem is, only one of the loans went to a store in New York City; the rest went to franchises as far away from Ground Zero as Woodstock, Ga., Essex Junction, Vt., and Cincinnati, Ohio.
http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/editorial/57446.htmBill O'Reilly defended his call on Al Qaeda to attack San Francisco on Talking points memo last night: "Predictably some far left internet smear sites have launched a campaign to get me fired over my point of view... Finally, what did the citizens of San Francisco think was gonna happen after they voted to oppose military recruitment? We're in the middle of a War on Terror and these loopy voters do something like this and I'm not supposed to call them on it?"
Purveyors of porn and entrepreneurs who spied a niche when Apple Computer Inc. unveiled its video-playing iPod are proving that sex even sells in tiny packages _ especially when it is portable. Jacko's blushing - and this time it's not just his rouge. The Queen, er, King of Pop, disguised in an Arabic woman's head scarf, got caught fixing his face in a ladies' bathroom in a Dubai shopping mall Saturday. Cops were called to the scene to resolve a dispute between Jackson, 47, and a shocked Tunisian woman who snapped his picture as he primped at the mirror. No arrests were made, according to The Khaleej Times.

Finally,
Violent burglars in London fled the scene when their 97-year-old victim threw a plant pot out of a window to alert passers by. The woman had opened her door after she heard the doorbell ring. Three men then forced the front door open, knocking her to the floor. One of the men held her on the floor covering her mouth with his hand while the other men searched the victim's house. As she was held on the floor the victim began shouting for help and managed to throw a plant pot out of an open window to attract attention of neighbors or passers by. A neighbor heard the victim's calls for help and went up to the front door to investigate. The burglars fled. Police are investigating.
