KOEB 11/9/2005 (The Future of News Edition)
Here he is, our Edward R. Murrow:

There may be no Bay Airs, perverts or cheerleaders having sex on tonight's show...but even if not, it should be good.

Enjoy.

10. Me, too, except for the Detroit mayoral race
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 08:17 PM by SharonRB
I went to bed thinking Kwame had lost and woke up today to find out he pulled it out in the wee hours. Not that I live in the city, but it really affects the whole metro area.

On edit: And speaking of the Detroit election, I really had to bite my tongue this morning. I was talking to the gal in the office next to mine, who I've mentioned here before is a very ardent Repub (her dog's name is Reagan). We were talking about the Detroit City Clerk who got voted out. There has been a huge scandal going on about her recently having to do with absentee ballots and how she abused the system by having absentee ballots "filled out" by dead people, how she sent "election ambassadors" to nursing homes to "help" people vote, etc. Then Pamela (my co-worker) said she didn't understand how people could vote for anyone who so obviously abused their power. I really had to control myself to not say anything about her voting for *, seeing that he's abused his power over and over again.

impeach His Chimpness.

Check out the polling numbers out of Tennessee for the Ford Jr. race:

(NASHVILLE) -- The latest poll for Tennessee's upcoming U.S. Senate race shows Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. leading all rivals in the campaign.

According to the survey taken by Global Strategy Group, Ford leads each of his possible Republican opponents for the November 2006 election. Ford leads failed 2002 Senate contender Ed Bryant 38 percent - 37 percent, failed 2002 gubernatorial nominee Van Hilleary 40 percent - 38 percent and failed 1994 Senate candidate Bob Corker 39 percent - 36 percent.

"I have been conducting survey research in Tennessee for years and the results of this poll, coupled with current national trends, show that Congressman Ford can win," said Harrison Hickman, Partner at Global Strategy Group. Harrison Hickman served as senior political advisor recently for U.S. Senator Mark Pryor, when he was elected in 2002 and former U.S. Senator John Edwards, when he was elected in 1998. Hickman’s current clients in Tennessee include 8th District Congressman John Tanner and State Senator Roy Herron – he also served as pollster for former Tennessee Governor Ned McWherter in both of his gubernatorial wins.

The survey results show marked declines in Tennesseans' favorability towards President George Bush and U.S. Senate Majority leader Bill Frist. However, the poll also reported that Tennessee voters did not penalize Harold Ford, Jr. because of their feelings about his uncle, State Sen. John Ford. In fact, Ford's position is stronger in this survey than Global Strategy Group's last poll in March.

In the Democratic primary, Ford leads State Senator Rosalind Kurita 5-to-1. While Ford's strength among Democrats has increased since the last poll in March, Kurita's has declined.

"The Global Strategy Group Poll clearly shows that the people of Tennessee are unhappy with the direction of the country. They want change; change in leadership, change in policies, and especially change in the character of government and many of the people in it. They are concerned about issues that matter most in their lives. They are not being distracted by irrelevancies and see in Harold Ford, Jr. a hopeful change for a better future," said Jim Hester, Harold Ford, Jr.'s Campaign Manager.

Why isn't he in handcuffs? My guess: the drunk person who leaked to Chalabi that we had broken that Iranian code was our own commander cuckoobananas. He's got 'em by the balls.

You know the ones that keep my thoughts from being so scattered.
The ones the head doc gives me after i tell him about Bay Airs and
EDVs.

Sounds like a good idea, maybe, but eventually it'll break and become a nuisance.

60. Ah, he was genial as always
but I don't think he's into her.

Actually, I was surprised at how old she looked on TV vs. her photos. The photos on her Web site look either very flattering, or as if they were taken about 10 years ago...

As for Worst Person: LOL, I knew that story about the woman who smuggled a parrot in her bra was too good for him to pass up.

But I'm sure she's a very nice woman for all that.

And the house...well, that's cool.

102. she did look good for 48, but she looked different in the photos
could be that the pictures were old, or that she's spent too much time in the tanning booth recently or the studio lighting was harsh. Also, the light-colored lipstick/gloss was an unflattering choice, IMHO.

74. I just read it and agree. But I'm afraid it KO did
"go network" they would constrain him so much (so as not to "offend" the redder and/or dumber parts of the audience) that he would lose his keefiness.

86. I would not be happy for Keef to go network if it meant restraint.
They'd have to let him go on being Keith, or there'd be no point to putting him there at all. It would be useless to put him on network and then expect him to do the exact same stuff in the chair that anchors have been doing since TV began...and only for a half an hour. Uh-uh.

What I'd like to see is someone get visionary enough to imagine what it would be like to have a network news hour like Keith does his hour. Not just take Keith and plop him down in the Dan Rather or Peter Jennings role.

It's about time someone suggested it might even be a GOOD idea. I was getting pretty sick of hearing people tout Jon Stewart's name, for heaven's sake, as a potential network news anchor while no one even mentioned Keith. I mean, he's great at what he does, but come on. Let's not get carried away.

Full hour. Up against something stupid and vapid, like oh - Trump or The Dukes of Hazzard Reunion.

90. Here's the thing:
Never, ever in the world we live in will KO get a full hour on network news, and the guy needs a big field to play on, with all he brings to the game. The only thing I would wish for him was many millions of more viewers, as he deserves.

But maybe you're ahead of me, and fuck "network news" and have a program that just happens to track the news and have fabulous media and political contacts in addition to being entertaining and informative in a less corporate-news-megaphony way.

The Network News model is broken. Put him on in prime time, when the grown-ups are watching TV.

YEEEEEEAAAAAAARGH!

Or Larry O'Leilly. Or whatever.

I'd still recommend the same time-slot. KOEBers need constancy.

99. Well said, bleev!
And I like the Howard Deanism thrown in at the end too!

Can't you almost see the youthful Keith, right now?...

"Look! It doesn't MATTER that I had to load up on credits insanely in my final year at Cornell just to graduate on time. Know why? Because I'm goin' RIGHT to RKO Radio! And THEN I'm goin' to CNN! And THEN I'm goin' to a station in Boston! And THEN I'm goin' to a couple of stations in LA! And THEN I'm goin' to ESPN! And THEN I'm gonna piss everyone off and THEN I'm goin' to MSNBC! And THEN I'm gonna get tired of covering Monicagate and THEN I'm goin' to Fox Sports! And THEN I'm gonna get tired of working for the Evil Empire and they're gonna get tired of me and THEN I'm gonna go to ABC Radio! And THEN I'm gonna do some radio reports on 9/11 and win some more awards! And THEN I'm gonna go back to MSNBC!...And THEN I'm goin' to network TV, and I'm gonna TAKE BACK PEOPLE'S EYEBALLS!!!!! YEEEEEEEAAAAAAARGH!"

...Well, even if the last part doesn't come true, we still :loveya: Keith.

103. I can't see him agreeing to "go network" without some
contract language that would allow him to retain his Keefiness. There was a time when I didn't think the broadcast networks would be desperate enough to go for something like that. Now, I'm not so sure.
