C.D.C. Looking for the Source of S1M1 Influenza


(CNN) -- 10/20/09 Atlanta, Georgia

Cases of a new strain of flu virus has the Center for Disease Control, looking for a "Patient Zero" who spread the illness from
Wisconsin to New York to passengers on a New York to Los Angeles flight, and then on to southern California. The C.D.C.'s
top epidemiologist, Dr. Jane Phunstuff, has named the new strain S1M1 after guessing as to the origin of the illness.

"We have been able to track the illness from Madison, Wisconsin to in and around Manhattan in particular the studios of MSNBC,
and the upper west side, then to a Oct. 17th flight from NYC to Southern California, and then to the general population in and around
"the estate district" of Hollywood. It is beyond me how anybody would get on a plane knowing that the air is recirculated around the
cabin and thereby exposing of others to the their illness." said Dr. Phunstuff. She went on to say "The new strain is much like swine flu
but the patients tend to have more of a raspy voice, a deep cough with lots of chest congestion, a high fever, chills, and chronic
fatigue. As of now nobody has died of S1M1 Influenza but I think it is just a matter of time."

Scientists at the C.D.C. were startled to learn that S1M1 virus not only carried the genes from both swine and avian flu strains but
the DNA from canine influenza too. The speculation is that "Patient Zero" must have had extremely close personal contact with
one or more dogs either by sharing food with the dogs, sleeping with the dogs, or kissing the dogs, in a way most dog owners do
not do. In the lab researchers found that the virus has a very high tolerance to alcohol because when they tried to clean their
equipment and petri dishes w/ alcohol they found the colonies still growing and when studied under high magnification almost thriving.

Dr. Phunstuff speculated that the host, "Patient Zero" must be used to a higher then normal blood alcohol content. She also noted that
the morphology of the virus was different in that it almost looked like a hammer toe instead of the normal morphology of most
viruses.
