I'm trying, but it's getting harder. I did get to see the doctor today when I went to the hospital. I had seen his photo online and when we walked in I saw him sitting in the nurses station, so I made hubby come with me and we talked to him while my dad was with my mom. The news isn't good. I think we have even less time than I had imagined. Sounds like it could be just a few months, although he didn't get specific.

The doctor said they'll probably never know the exact source (why, I have no idea), but the tumor is on the outside of the liver and it's probably either pancreas or bile duct cancer and in either case, it's probably a matter of months. Once they get the bile ducts cleared out they can start oral chemo, which she can do at home with a pill. The prognosis isn't great, but hopefully she'll at least start feeling somewhat better soon.

I don't think she has any idea how bad it is. The doctor said he told my father all of this, but he didn't tell me -- I'm not sure it's sunk in yet or else he's in denial. The doctor said he's only told my mother what she's asked and nothing more. I don't think she's asked for a prognosis like I did today.

They tried on Tuesday, but there was a blood clot in the way. They'll try again tomorrow and the doctor was pretty sure they would be successful. I guess it will take a few days once they get it in.

It's just so bizarre how fast this all happened.

I actually thought it had probably been growing for a long time, but now I don't. My mother was originally supposed to have her second knee replacement today and she had given blood at the ortho hospital where she was supposed to have it done a couple of weeks ago. Well, obviously, the surgery was cancelled with the doctor, but somehow the hospital never got the message and they called my dad two days ago and told him she'd have to give blood again because there were some anomalies. Well, of course there were!

Well, when she had her other knee done about three months ago there were no anomalies, so it must have started since then and grown very fast.
