2. RockaFowler has a thread up in GD about this trial....
She says that Casey Anthony's defense team says Caylee drowned in pool & Casey lied about death b/c she learned to lie when father abused her.

4. Soooo, what does everyone think about the defense's opening statement?
I think the part about George Anthony helping Casey is unbelievable!

5. Since I've had a little time to think about it - both things could be true. If her father molested
her in the past, it might explain her reactions to things. But it doesn't mean the baby drowned and that Mr Anthony had anything to do with covering it up. They are two different bad events.

She is not the first woman that has killed her child to be with a man, and that seems to be what happened. On the other hand, why did she just not desert the child and let the grandparents raise her. Soooo - the questions just go on and on. I just don't know what to believe at this time.

6. I kinda thought Nancy Grace had a point about Casey being..
molested by her father and brother. Nancy asked, would anyone who was molested by their father leave their child to be babysat alone with the said molester? That is a good question I think.

I agree she wouldn't be the first woman that has killed her child to be with a man. But did she kill her or did the baby drown in the pool?

For right now until further information comes from the trial, I don't believe one word the defense said in opening statements. I feel they had nothing truthful to defend her with so they are just trying to raise reasonable doubt.

I will gladly change my mind if they can show evidence that their theory is true.

9. Yes. Her whole family made her into a liar too......
She learned to lie when George molested her, again when Lee also molested her (not as bad as George) then Cindy made her lie when she became pregnant with Caylee.

Oh yeah, and George made her lie when Caylee drowned and he helped her hide the body too.

I'm having a hard time believing the defense's defense.

10. Being molested and killing her child need to be separated in the jury's mind. One does not
mean the other happened. The molestation might somewhat explain her constant lying, but it does not have anything remotely to do with her murdering her child.

I have not kept up with the details of this story very much, and now that I am looking into it, I am overwhelmed with all the side stories - like her mother choking her???? that strange man bailing her out of jail, on and on - all the surrounding stuff. I wish there was a way to get an outline of everything that has happened. I looked on Wiki but it didn't help.

I'm boring my hubby to death listing to every minute of this - lol.

27. Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton retiring
Orlando Sentinel

Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton retiring

Just hours after the verdict was read in the biggest case of his career, veteran Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton announced he will retired at the end of the week.

Ashton's last day at the Orange-Osceola State Attorney's Office, where he has worked for 30 years, will be Friday, a spokeswoman for State Attorney Lawson Lamar said this afternoon.

"It's a personal matter," said Danielle Tavernier. "He and Mr. Lamar have spoken about this and it comes as no surprise to him ."

It's unclear what Ashton plans to do in his retirement or if he will be seeking another job. He was one of three assistant state attorneys assigned to the Casey Anthony first-degree murder trial.

Casey Anthony: Judge delays release of Casey Anthony juror names
Juror identities will remain private until Oct. 25 or after.

The names of jurors who served on Casey Anthony's first-degree murder trial will remain secret until October, according to a ruling Tuesday by Chief Judge Belvin Perry.

Ordinarily, juror names become public in Florida once a verdict is rendered.

Perry's 12-page ruling said the names of 14 of the 17 jurors will remain private until Oct. 25. Several jurors already stepped forward and spoke to the media, at least one under condition of anonymity.

37. Caylee's 6th Birthday Memorial

Casey Anthony Did Not Appear at Caylee's Birthday Memorial

Amidst a sea of violet balloons, hundreds gathered to commemorate what would have been Caylee Anthony's sixth birthday. Among the gatherers, stood the people who perhaps knew her best: Caylee's grandparents, George and Cindy Anthony.

They mingled, murmuring words of thanks and appreciation Tuesday evening as the densely packed crowd clamored for hugs and a chance to show their support. They gathered at the site where Caylee's skeletal remains were found three years ago.

Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, remains in hiding following her acquittal of murder charges in Caylee's death.

For the elder Anthonys', the grief is still fresh.

"It's hard to come down here," said George Anthony, sobbing. "It's hard."

38. Casey Ordered To Return To Orlando To Serve Probation

Casey Ordered To Return To Orlando To Serve Probation

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony has been ordered by Judge Belvin Perry on Friday to come back to Orlando to serve one year of probation in her check fraud conviction. Casey must report no later than August 26, at noon, according to the judge's order.

Another judge, Stan Strickland, had sentenced Anthony in January 2010 to one year of probation after she pleaded guilty to stealing checks from a friend. He said Anthony should serve the probation upon her release, but those instructions never made it to a written order. Corrections officials interpreted the sentence to mean Anthony could serve the probation while she was in jail awaiting her murder trial.

Strickland clarified in an order last week that Anthony needs to start serving probation now that she is out of jail. Strickland later recused himself and turned the case over to Perry, who presided over the murder trial that ended last month with Anthony's acquittal in her daughter's death.

Perry put the probation order on hold temporarily and heard arguments last week from Anthony's attorneys. They told the judge that she had served her probation while in jail awaiting her murder trial and requiring her to do so again would be double jeopardy. They also argued that she would be in danger if her location were known, given that she has received death threats.

39. Jose Baez being investigated by The Florida Bar

Casey Anthony: Jose Baez being investigated by The Florida Bar for Casey Anthony probation issue
Jose Baez has a history of complaints with the Bar since taking Casey Anthony's case.

The Florida Bar told the Orlando Sentinel on Wednesday it is investigating defense attorney Jose Baez again, the latest probe related to Casey Anthony's probation issue.

Earlier this month, Orange-Osceola Chief Judge Belvin Perry heard arguments from Anthony's defense team on whether or not she should be required to serve probation.

At issue: Anthony pleaded guilty to 13 charges in a check fraud case in January 2010. Judge Stan Strickland sentenced her to time-served in jail, and a year of probation after her jail release.

But last month, when Anthony was acquitted of murder and released from the Orange County Jail, she wasn't put on probation. The Department of Corrections said Anthony served that probation in jail while she was awaiting the murder trial.
