Has anyone here ever read Peter Høeg's "Smilla's Sense of Snow"?
As far as I know it's not a "true crime" murder mystery, but let me just say, without spoiling it for those who haven't read it, that due to certain developments on the global social stage, it's acquired a new currency in my eyes. One of my favorite books of all time, actually. If you haven't heard of it, I highly recommend picking it up.

1. It's a great book.
The movie was ridiculous, though.

2. Oh, the movie was godawful.
I'm happy somebody else knows of the wonderful book, though.

3. I just wanted to add that it's a great book, really, but I recommend the American translation,

not the British. For once, from what I've seen, American translators did a better job capturing the artistic integrity of a non-American writer's vision (maybe because Danish translates so very well into Americanized English). I keep looking at my favorite parts of the book on the web posts of a British friend who pulled excerpts from her copy and they're just all kinds of wrong.

4. I read it when it first came out.
I should re-read it; I really liked it. Thanks for the reminder. :)

7. Yeah.
I wasn't that crazy about it. Didn't enjoy the writing style, but it might have been the translation.
