Mashpee Wampanoag win tribal status
http://www.capecodonline.com/cctimes/tribeyes15.htm

The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe near Cape Cod has been awarded official tribal status from the BIA. I know, whoopee the BIA, everyone's favorite. But this is good news for this small tribe who has been working for the right to put there lands in a protected trust and the other "benefits" that they are now entitled to. A casino plan is also in the works. Personally I am torn by this seeking of sanctioning by the BIA that these tribes undertake. I do not fault them for wanting to open a casino either. I hate when it takes words and paper from the BIA to make anyone feel "official". I just came across this story in the Cape Cod Times and thought that I would share it with my DU brothers and sisters. In a move that showed class, the Chief invited members from the Department of the Interior to an upcoming pow wow that the tribe was hosting.

It's going to be Spring here in the South which means that pow wow season is around the corner. I have waited for the first one that is in my neck of the woods since last year. It's an intertribal held in southern South Carolina near Savannah. I had a great time and met a lot of nice people from many nations. It's March 10th and 11th if anyone is in South Georgia or South Carolina.

Peace to you all
