1. Too many know nothings over there
I get tired of reading so much BS from the WDS guys. They are writing about something they really no little about. Other than your remarks I see little of substance over there. It just a lot of "indian princess" and 1/150 Cherokee crap to me.

The articles you quoted were great. All the others gave no attributations, just opinions. And anyone who would discredit Vine Deloria . . . well I'll hear none of that.

2. i hate to participate in those threads
but i won't let people insinuate that my ancestors were cannibalistic, elder killing, clear cutting, mega fauna killer, woman haters...i hate anthropologists...they find a fucking skull in a pile of mud...and the next thing you know they are extrapolating whole societies...and the more outrageous the claim the more money they can get in grants...i need to take an aspirin and lay down...

3. I agree with you
as far as I am concerned these people base their beliefs on the word of graverobbers. I refuse to participate in their fantasies. I see my ancestors every time I look in the mirror. Good night.

4. Lots of interesting comments....
at least the discussion was civil....mostly...:) I was involved in a thread that was loosely named "Land Ownership and Native Americans" the poster put forth the idea that a certain % of our property taxes be spent on indian issues....a lot of people on the thread stated that the indians didn't deserve it, its a lost matter, to the victor goes the spoils and a lot of stuff like that....quite a few were adamant that they didn't want any of their tax money going to native americans...it was a weird thread to be reading on DU, it opened my eyes up a bit, to say the least....

5. Peter....
The dominant culture will always be at odds with our people. The only difference between Repubs and Dems is that the Repubs say up front that they will take from us, the Dems will smile at us and then steal behind our backs. Very, very few of them are actually our allies. Duhmericans do not like to have the issue of indians in front of them....we burst their false notion of a country founded on the ideals of freedom and justice, and they DO NOT want to look at that.

6. Yeah, true...
To be its a bit more like this...

Indian Joe says: We had it bad, the fed govt screwed us over, and they didn't uphold their treaties, and wiped us out.

Republican Joe: Yeah, so what, you got conquered, so sad, so bad....

Democrat Joe: I'm sorry that happened, I truly am, but get over it, you lost, and thats that...

Not to much of a difference, but so far this is the sort of feeling I get around here, granted I haven't participated as much or been a DU member that long, but its my gut feeling....Most people don't know or are even aware that their are different POV of America's history, and most accept the sugar coated history that is taught in the public school system. I always wonder...if people knew, that Christopher Columbus, didn't discover the Americas...how many Spainards do you know named Christopher Columbus? I don't know any...as a matter of fact, his name Was Cristobol Colon....but we americanized his name, and made it Christopher Columbus...just little manipulations in history...:) But anyways...:P
