need help getting static out of my AM Radio to listen to Air America..!!
I changed the plugs, new ignition wires, Rotor cap, rotor.. and i just cant get rid of what sounds like plug firing..rapid and LOUD..

I remember the days before FM..:eyes: and i did get resisters for the plugs.. they say the plugs have resisters now.. but i not sure they are worth a damn if they work at all..

any ideas..

thanks

1. kicking this, cuz i have the same problem
i know back in the day, you could get a gizmo, i think it was called an rf filter, that took care of this. i need to take my truck in to get some extra speakers installed. i was gonna try to get them to fix it at the car stereo joint. i'll let you know.

2. Magnecor Race Wires
Magnecors are designed to suppress EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RFI (radio frequency interference). You might try these spark plug wires if you are using ordinary carbon wires. They're expensive (about $70 for a set of four) but they are supposed to cure that problem.

3. Put an inductive filter on the 12v feed wire to the radio
It is worth a try. They probably have them at radio shack.

4. Better grounds.
Add an additional ground wire from the radio chassis to the car chassis. don't depend on the ground lead provided with the factory wiring. Also, the antenna lead can pick up a lot of noise if it's not well grounded. I like to solder a wire onto the metal strain relief of the arial lead plug and connect that to the radio chassis. That makes for a better ground connection than just the slip fit with the radio's female arial socket.
