Let Me Ask
do we walk the talk or

just talk the talk ?

It's WE THE PEOPLE against "we the corporations" and all those they've bought in
DC.

We either stand up and say "that's enough" - return to the Constitution, the
Bill of Rights, the Law because we are 300 million people against you 1 percent
or we sink further into "fascism" also known as "corporatism".

John Edwards is so right. The system is broken and it happened because we have been sheeple.

It's time to speak up and let the Pelosi's and Rahm Emanuels and Harry Reid's know THEY LIED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE just as much as the current mis-administration has. They're a rubber stamp for the mis- administration.

And we're gonna stand up , tell them so, and not take it anymore !

1. If we the people want to regain control of the federal House...
Edited on Fri May-09-08 12:26 PM by JEQuidam
If we the people want to regain control of the federal House, then we need to regain control of the Representatives. Because the average congressional district in the U.S. consists of 700,000 people, the Representatives must raise many millions of dollars every two years in order to finance their reelection campaign. Of course, it is far easier for an incumbent to raise those amounts than it is for a challenger. Because of this barrier to entry, incumbent Representatives are assured of 90%+ reelection rates.

As a result, the incumbent is beholden to numerous powerful special interests for their financial and political support; these groups comprise the Representatives' primary constituents. The citizenry has become the Representatives' secondary constituency.

If we reduced the population size of congressional districts from 700,000 to a much smaller size, such as 50,000, it is easy to see why the citizens would once again become the Representatives' primary constituents. It would no longer require millions of dollars to seek election in a district of 50,000. In fact, if an incumbent were not held in high esteem by his/her constituents, then any competent citizen could mount an effective challenge at no more expense than the cost of several pairs of walking shoes and several thousand photocopies.

This point is argued for in the Thirty-Thousand.org web pamphlet. If you are interested in this, please read the 15 Questions and Answers on the homepage (at http://www.thirty-thousand.org).

2. One person, one vote, one corporation, no vote
I would not allow anybody but a private citizen living within a given congressional district to contribute money to its incumbent or anybody else contesting his/her re-election. I would like to see hard caps on private contributions, and federal penalties against corporations/lobbyists/PACs or whoever else tries to funnel money to a candidate or incumbent running for office in the private citizen's district.

Non-citizens can do their swift boat ads; the 1st amendment gives them the right to do that. But we can do more to put people in charge of campaign finance.

5. At 50000 per district you would have appx 6000 reps
Debating a single bill would take weeks, the budget would take most of the year.
